A flying bird decoy for attracting wildlife wherein flying bird decoys may be supported on each end of one or more rotatable rods or arms, with wings that selectively fold and flap up and down in life-like, actual flying, landing and take-off movements. The bird decoys simulate foraging, predatory or waterfowl birds and in one embodiment a pair of the bird decoys are mounted on the ends of a rod or arm(s) rotatably mounted on a pole or stake support, using throat mounts. In another embodiment the bird decoys are secured to the ends of the arm(s) at the head without the use of throat mounts, for flying in a circle on the arm(s) to attract the wildlife. In a further embodiment one or both of the bird decoys are configured to simulate one of the above bird groups and fly to generate rotation of the arm(s), with one wing folded and the other flapping to simulate injury or distress. A method for attracting wildlife using flying bird decoys which simulate dove, quail, crows, hawks, ducks, geese or the like, and includes the steps of mounting the bird decoys on a rotatable arm or arms carried by a pole or stake support and causing one or both of the wings to flap, thus causing the bird decoys to fly or vibrate in a circle around the support.

Bird decoys for attracting predators, one of which decoys may be rotatably deployed on a rod with one wing folded, the other wing extended and both moving to simulate a wounded bird. Other embodiments include a mechanical flying bird supported on a rotating arm in a single bird flying configuration, a pair of mechanical flying birds deployed in tandem on a common rotating arm and a stacked flying bird configuration of four birds. A method for attracting predators using bird decoys which simulate dove, quail, crow, hawk, duck, geese or the like, and includes the steps of rotatably deploying a bird decoy with a folded wing on a rod or stake and causing the extended wing to flap and the folded wing to vibrate, thus simulating a wounded bird. The method also includes mounting one or more mechanical flying birds on a rotating arm or arms attached to an upright support for simulating circling of the various decoy birds in selected locations to attract predators.

Animated decoys each having a flexible decoy body which is supported on a self-contained decoy movement device that imparts life-like movement to the decoy body. In a first preferred embodiment, the decoy body is formed of a flexible sheet material such as rubber or foam rubber, typically in the two-dimensional shape of a fowl, and includes an opening which inserts on a cylindrical collar provided on the decoy movement device. The decoy movement device is supported on the upper end of a tapered spring which is provided on the upper end of an elongated, flexible support rod, the lower end of which support rod is typically inserted in the ground. The tapered spring permits life-like feeding or swimming movements of the decoy body imparted by the decoy movement device to attract predators or other fowl for photography, observation or hunting purposes. In a second embodiment, the decoy body is constructed in the three-dimensional size and shape of a turkey, hen, deer or other fowl or mammal and includes an interior pocket or pockets for receiving respective decoy movement devices which impart life-like motions to the decoy body.

Animated decoys

An animated decoy comprising a generally hollow decoy body having an inner surface wherein a freely movable self-contained decoy movement device is placed in a predetermined location within the decoy body for random movement therein. The movement device randomly impacts the inner surface of the decoy body causing the decoy body to move in a predetermined manner. A generally flexible support rod having first and second ends is provided for flexibly and pivotally supporting the decoy body a predetermined distance above the ground. The first end of the support rod engages the decoy body while the second end is inserted a predetermined distance into the ground. In operation, the support rod is flexibly responsive to the movement of the decoy body. As alternative embodiments of the present invention, the decoy movement device is attached directly to the support rod or is secured between the sidewalls of the decoy body. The present invention also defines a method and kit of parts for converting a non-animated decoy into an animated decoy.
