A closure for a container having generally helical threads on the neck finish is formed from a one-piece cap shell of thermoplastic material including a top wall and a peripheral skirt, the skirt having a plurality of spaced, hard, flexible generally vertical thermoplastic ribs integral with the shell for contacting the threads of the container. Each rib is so constructed and arranged that it has sufficient resistance to cold flow that it only slightly flexes and bends around the thread to form a shallow indentation on the rib when the rib is forced into contact with the thread, the indentation being sufficient to provide purchase on the threads for removing the closure.

One-piece thermoplastic closure having press-on screw off structure

An all-plastic press-on, twist-off closure for a container having threads in the neck finish is made of a hard plastic shell having a top and a peripheral skirt. A gasket member is provided on the inside of the shell located adjacent the top and the shell skirt. The gasket member has resilient deformable ribs for engaging the threads and the gasket member and the shell skirt are held together against rotation with respect to each other by interlocking spline means on the shell skirt and the gasket member skirt.

Press-on twist-off closure for container

A closure for a container comprising a body of synthetic plastic material including a top wall and a peripheral skirt, removably engaging a container. An annular channel is provided on the inner surface of the top wall at the area of juncture of the top wall and the skirt. The channel comprises integral side wall portions and at least one of said side walls comprises spaced generally vertically extending ribs. A sealing gasket is cast in situ in the channel and interlocks with the spaced ribs.

Closures with cast sealing gasket

A tamperproof package comprising a container having a neck with external threads formed thereon and a plastic closure comprising a top panel and an integral depending annular skirt having integral internal threads formed thereon complementary to the threads on the neck of the container. The container has an annular locking bead positioned axially below the threads. The skirt has a pilfer ring at the lower end thereof connected to the upper portion of the skirt by a plurality of circumferentially spaced integral bridge portions that are located below the threads when the closure is on the container. The ring has a radially inwardly extending annular rib engaging beneath the locking bead of the container when the closure is on the container. One of the bridge portions has a greater cross section than the remainder of the bridge portions such that when the closure is applied to the container, the rib on the pilfer ring snaps over and engages below the locking bead on the container, and when the closure is rotated to remove the closure from the container, the bridge portions are broken except for the bridge portion having the greater cross section such that the pilfer ring remains connected to the closure.

Tamper indicating package

The disclosure relates to a unitary molded article and a method for producing a multi-part closure for assembly on the neck of a container, the closure involving an axially shiftable valve element which is movable between open and closed position. All parts of the multi-part valve element are integrally molded in a common molding cavity and the various relatively movable parts are interconnected by thin annular webs which are severed and the parts placed in proper operative condition during the assembly of the closure to the neck of a container by a conventional applicating machine.

Multi-part dispensing closure having a frangible connecting web

A child-resistant package comprising a container having a neck with threads thereon and a child-resistant closure. The closure comprises a cap made of organic plastic material and having a top wall and a peripheral skirt, having threads thereon adapted to engage the threads of the container. The skirt has a radial flange and a plurality of circumferentially spaced depressions on the upper surface of the radial flange. The closure also comprises a ring telescoped over the cap and surrounding the skirt of the cap. The ring has a plurality of lugs extending upwardly from the radial flange of the cap and adapted to engage the depressions upon application of a downward force on the ring. Each depression on the radial flange has a substantially vertical surface at one circumferential end adapted to be engaged by a lug on the ring when the ring is rotated in a direction to thread the closure onto the container. Each depression on the radial flange of the closure also has an inclined surface at the other circumferential end such that upon mere rotation of the ring in a direction to unthread the closure from the container results in the lugs on the ring sliding up the inclined surfaces so that the closure can only be removed by a combined downward force on the ring and rotational force in the direction of threading the closure off of the container.

Child-resistant package

A package comprising a container and a molded plastic closure. The container neck has external threads formed thereon and an external frustoconical sealing surface formed above said threads and extending upwardly and radially inwardly. The closure comprises a panel and an integral depending annular skirt, the skirt having integral internal threads formed thereon complementary to the threads on the neck of the container. An integral annular side sealing rib extends radially inwardly from the inner surface of the skirt and engages the external frustoconical sealing surface of the container in an interference fit such that when the closure is threaded on the container, the rib is compressed into sealing relation with the external frustoconical sealing surface. The panel portion of the closure includes a portion adapted to engage the end of the neck of the container to form a top seal. The closure includes a flexible annular wall integrally connecting the periphery of the panel and the sealing rib.

Container and closure

A two member child-resistant closure assembly including an outer shell and an inner resilient closure retained therein. In the child-resistant mode, the resilient inner closure spring biases the outer shell into locking engagement with lugs formed on a cooperating container. A handling ring is provided for removing the inner closure for use separately as a snap cap. For this purpose, the inner closure includes an annular plug, and a short annular skirt arranged to engage the container rim.

Convertible child-resistant closure assembly

A snap on child resistant closure has a radial port which may be aligned with a radial port on a cooperating container neck to allow dispensing of granular or pulverulent contents. The closure has a flexible annular skirt provided with a plurality of inwardly projecting lugs. Cooperating outwardly projecting lugs on the container neck normally prevent rotation of the closure to the angular position of alignment of the radial ports. The flexible annular skirt must be squeezed and distorted to disengage the lugs, thereby permitting alignment of the ports.

Child resistant dispensing closure

A manually operable tool for removing threaded closures from the necks of bottles is provided. Such tool constitutes a one piece molded plastic structure of generally oval-shaped horizontal configuration having a peripheral depending wall by which torque applied by the fingers may be transmitted to the tool. Within the boundaries of the peripheral wall, a depending circular wall is integrally formed and portions of such circular wall are integral with portions of the peripheral wall. The circular wall is provided with appropriate internal projections or ribs to engage similar ribs or depressions provided on the closure for which the tool is designed.

Threaded closure removal tool

A molded thermoplastic closure having a heat shrinkable tamperproof band integrally attached to the lower outside circular edge of the closure skirt by means of circumferentially spaced bridge members. The outside diameter of the tamperproof band is greater than the outside diameter of the skirt, so that the tamperproof band extends at least partially beyond the circular lower skirt edge. The upper edge of the band can be located outside the skirt edge and be connected thereto only by the bridge members, or it can be located partially beneath the skirt and be directly integrally connected thereto through an annular region.

Tamperproof closure

A child-resistant container and closure combination includes a one piece molded closure threadable on a container neck. When the closure is fully threaded onto the container neck, a pawl, integrally formed on the bottom of the closure skirt, interlocks with a lug projecting from the container neck to prevent rotational removal of the closure. One end of the pawl is integrally attached to the closure by a relatively thin and flexible bridge, and a slot is formed in the closure skirt immediately above the pawl and bridge. The flexibility provided by the slot and the thin bridge attachment permits the pawl to be manually deflected upwardly to disengage the pawl and lug, thereby permitting rotational removal of the closure.

One piece child-resistant closure

The invention comprises a threaded plastic closure for a container for pressured fluids, such as a carbonated beverage bottle. The panel portion of the closure abuts the top of the bottle neck or finish to form a top seal, and the wall portion has an internal annular sealing rib for creating a seal on an outside cylindrical portion of the bottle finish. The connecting material between the side seal rib and the top seal of the closure is deformed outwardly, away from the finish and is of reduced wall thickness to provide a flexible connection between the top seal and the side sealing rib.

Side seal closure

A tamper proof molded closure is provided for use on a threaded bottle neck having an external peripheral bead below the threaded portion of the bottle neck. The closure comprises a one piece molded cap having a circular panel portion and a depending annular skirt portion with the upper portion of the skirt defining internal threads and a lower band portion of the skirt defining an internal shoulder that is expandable to snap over the container bead during the assembly operation to lock the closure to the bottle neck. At a region intermediate the threaded portion and the interior shoulder, the external wall of the band portion of the closure is scored to form a slit extending peripherally around the entire closure. The depth of the slit extends through the wall of a closure at all points except for a limited number of peripherally spaced arcuate segments where the depth of the slit is less than that of the thickness of the skirt portion. This provides connecting bridges between the threaded portion and the band portion of the closure which are readily severable by rotational movement of the closure in a direction to unscrew it from the bottle neck. The slit height is limited to permit collapsing of the slit during the application of the closure to force the internal shoulder over the container bead.

Tamper proof molded plastic closure

The invention provides an improved plastic snap cap with a tamper proof band for sealing wide mouthed plastic containers that have an outwardly protruding, continuous, circumferential bead near the top of the container rim. The cap panel has a depending sealing plug for forming a seal on the inside surface of the container. The inside of the closure skirt has a dual function groove formed to provide a frangible circumferential line and to receive the protruding bead when the cap is snapped into position on the container. The portion of the skirt below the groove serves as a tamper proof tear strip, and normally prevents removal of the closure. The groove on the inside of the closure skirt does not extend around the entire inner circumference of the skirt, but leaves a small section of the skirt with no groove or recess to receive the protruding bead. Therefore, when the cap is in place on the container, the protruding bead causes this section of the skirt to bulge slightly outward. A vertical score line extends from each end of the discontinuous groove to the bottom of the tamper proof band. The small bulged area and vertical score lines permit the tamper proof band to be easily grasped and torn away from the closure along the peripherally weakened area provided by the discontinuous groove.
