The claimed subject matter relates to systems and methods for processing messages in a wireless communications environment. In an aspect, a communications method is provided. The method includes initiating a registration with a network domain node and generating sequence information with respect to the registration. The sequence information is then employed to facilitate further communications with the network domain node.

Message ordering for network based mobility management systems

Methods and apparatus related to message compression/decompression are described. A compressed message is generated by indicating what changes are to be made to a previous message to produce the message sought to be transmitted. The required change, in the form of at least one command and corresponding parameter, is transmitted as a compressed version of the message being communicated. This approach takes advantage of the fact that messages sent over time often include much of the same message content and only one or a few fields may have changed. The techniques are general and involve including a command in the compressed message along with at least one parameter. The command indicates processing to be performed on a previous message to generate the uncompressed message. The parameter may be, e.g., data to be inserted into the previous message or specify a location in the previous message where the change is to be made.

Message compression

Methods and apparatus for routing messages between an end node and an access node via another access node are described. Physical layer identification information is used when identifying a remote, e.g., adjacent, access node as a message destination. Thus, when a connection identifier based on one or more physical layer identifiers is available to a wireless terminal, e.g., from one or more downlink signals received from a destination access node, the wireless terminal can use the connection identifier corresponding to the destination node to route a message via an access node with which it has an established uplink connection. Such connection identifier information can be used even when other addressing information, e.g., network layer address information, associated with the destination access node, may not be available to the wireless terminal.

Communications methods and apparatus using physical attachment point identifiers which support dual communications links

The claimed subject matter relates to systems and methods for processing messages in a wireless communications environment. In an aspect, a communications method is provided. The method includes establishing a communications link though an access component with a network domain node and enabling at least one other communications link through at least one other access component with the network domain node. This also includes enabling concurrent communications with the network domain node via the access component or the other access component.

Multi-link support for network based mobility management systems

A device can connect to a network over a first interface to configure and obtain an IP address. To communicate with nodes in a second network, over a second interface, the IP address can be validated by a trusted third party. The validation can include conducting a return routability test to validate a Prefix of the IP address. Cryptographically Generated Address verification can be utilized to verify the validity of an Interface Identifier included in the IP address. If the IP address is validated, the trusted third party can include the address in a verification ticket, which can also include a signature of the trusted third party. The device can provide the verification ticket to nodes in the second network as authentication of the device.

Third party validation of internet protocol addresses

Methods and apparatus for using end nodes, e.g., wireless terminals, to discover base stations and communicate information about discovered access nodes, e.g., base stations, to other access nodes in a system are described. As the wireless terminal roams in the system and new access nodes are encountered, one or more physically adjacent access nodes will be informed of the presence of the new access node as a result of communications with the wireless terminal. A message indicating an access node's inability to route a message to another access node which is known to a wireless terminal may trigger the wireless terminal to begin the process of updating access node routing and neighbor information.

Method and apparatus for end node assisted neighbor discovery

Embodiments describe synchronizing access routers with wireless terminal state information. According to an embodiment is a wireless terminal that transmits a message that includes an address for at least two access routers. State change information can optionally be included in the message. According to another embodiment is an access router that receives a state change notification from a wireless device or another access router. The state change notification is updated in the access router. An acknowledgment confirming the updated state change may be sent to the wireless terminal. Dynamic state synchronization is provided with minimal communication with wireless terminal.

Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate inter-system handover in a wireless communication system. Various aspects described herein provide for handover techniques that enable a target system to be prepared by a mobile device via a source system in order to minimize specific changes required to source system and/or target system. Techniques are described herein in which the radio link of a source system can be utilized to tunnel signaling messages which are in a format understood by a destination node in a target system. Further, fast inter-access handover can be facilitated by establishing a simple generic transmission tunnel between respective network nodes in source and target systems that handle intra-system mobility and providing a Layer 2 (L2) tunneling mechanism over the radio interface of each involved system technology.

Communications methods and apparatus using physical attachment point identifiers

The claimed subject matter relates to performing routing in a wireless communications system. In more detail, each device associated with a wireless packet-switched network may not be aware of an identity and/or address of a particular point of attachment with respect to a wireless terminal. A data packet that should be provided to a particular point of attachment can be initially directed to a wireless terminal or a one-hop multicast address, for instance. Thereafter, the data packet can be encapsulated in a frame format and identity of the particular point of attachment can be provided in such frame. The frame can thereafter be routed to the point of attachment.

Packet routing in a wireless communications environment

Aspects relate to allowing peer nodes that establish a communication through a home agent to move that session to a directly connected link. Thus, the directly connected nodes can exchange packets natively without encapsulation. Further aspects allow a node that does not have any home agent entity to switch from a local network to a global network without losing ongoing sessions.

Home agent-less MIPv6 route optimization over WAN

Providing for inter-system idle mobility management for independent mobile networks is described herein. By way of example, registration of multiple mobile IP (MIP) addresses to a mobile device can be utilized to facilitate inter-system device tracking. An Internet Protocol (IP) home agent that serves the mobile device can associate the MIPs with a home IP address of the mobile device. When communication is received for the home address, device paging can be initiated by utilizing at least a plurality of the MIPs bound to the home address. A mobile device response can provide a current active network address, and the received communication can be delivered via such active network address. As disclosed herein, the mobile device can switch attachment among the networks without signaling such networks, based on the multiple address bindings. Accordingly, significant power reduction can be afforded to mobile devices in idle mode.

Inter-system idle mode mobility

Methods and apparatus for generating, communicating, and/or using sets of addresses corresponding to a communications device are described. A first communications device generates, from a public key and a random number, both a first address and a second address. The generated address pair is communicated to a second communications device along with proof of ownership information regarding the address pair via an address signaling message such as a binding update message. The second communications device processes the received address signaling message and determines address pair validity and/or address pair ownership information. The first address may be associated with a first network, e.g., an unsecure WAN network, while the second address may be associated with a second network, e.g., a secure peer to peer network. Decisions on switching between using the first address to using the second address may be based on address validity and/or address ownership determinations.
