A mounting plate for securing a telecommunications wall outlet to a wall panel; a method of installing a telecommunications wall outlet; and an assembly of a telecommunications wall outlet, a mounting plate and a wall panel. The mounting plate has a planar element having ends and sides which surround an aperture through the planar element. Each end of the planar element provides at least one bendable tab for securing the mounting plate to a wall panel and also means for attaachment of a faceplate of a telecommunications outlet. The mounting plate is installed through an aperture cut in a wall panel which corresponds to the aperture through the mounting plate. The planar element is secured against the inner surface of the wall panel by the bendable tabs at each end of the planar element.

To obtain acceptable arc percussion welding of tin plated copper pins to thin brass strip members, the tin must be prevented from becoming trapped in the weld zone and gaseous and other forms of material also being trapped. By giving the end of a pin a smooth, hemispherical profile, the plasma arc is initiated at the center of the pin end and progressively moves radially outwards. This melts the tin plate layer and the tin is caused to flow radially outwards from the weld zone. The copper of the pin and brass of the strip then melt slightly and on impact welding is achieved. The outward flow of tin also assists in causing other undesirable elements being removed from the weld zone.

A rotatable latch, as for the door of an enclosure, has a positive indication of latching, the indication capable of being felt and heard. A rotatable latch member mounted, for example, on the door, has a radially extending finger which engages with a latch plate mounted on the door frame. The latch plate has an inclined surface up which moves the finger, against a spring bias. At the end of the inclined surface is a detent into which the finger snaps, under the action of the spring bias, when the rotatable latch member is in a fully latched position. The snapping of the finger into the detent can be both felt and heard.
