An insert or cartridge that fits into a cavity in a valve body provides a check valve function and an anti-cavitation function and a pressure relief function. This insert is substantially circular and has an internal cavity with a valve assembly that has two pairs of valve seats, one pair of valve seats providing the anti-cavitation function and the other pair of valve seats providing the pressure relief function. The outside of the insert itself engages with a sealing surface in the cavity in the valve body to provide the check valve function.

A test for hydraulic leakage in hydraulic components uses a rate testing device having two circuits including a filling circuit that fast-fills the component with hydraulic fluid and a leakage circuit that measures the leakage rate of fluid flow through the component. The filling circuit is first connected to the component to fill the component. Once full, flow through the filling circuit is blocked and flow to the component is provided by the leakage circuit, which includes a leakage flow rate measuring device. The filling circuit provides a flow rate that is at least twice the flow rate that is provided by the leakage circuit.

A hydraulic leakage rate testing device for testing hydraulic components has two circuits, a filling circuit that fast-fills the component with hydraulic fluid and a leakage circuit that measures the leakage rate of fluid flow through the component. The filling circuit is first connected to the component to fill the component. Once full, flow through the filling circuit is blocked and flow to the component is provided by the leakage circuit, which includes a leakage flow rate measuring device. The filling circuit provides a flow rate that is at least twice the flow rate provided through the leakage circuit.

A spool valve includes a pressure control portion and a pair of flow control portions. Each flow control portion is adjacent to, and on opposite sides of, the pressure control portion. A first plurality of opposed notches are formed in the pressure control portion. The first plurality of notches have a first geometry. A second plurality of opposed notches are formed in each flow control portion. The second plurality of notches include at least one notch of a second geometry, different from the first geometry, and at least one notch of a third geometry, different from the first and second geometries.
