Novel fungal endoglucanases Cel5 and Cel12 are disclosed. The endoglucanases are conveniently produced by recombinant technology, and means for their production are described. The endoglucanases are used for treating cellulosic material, especially in textile industry, e.g. in biofinishing or biostoning. They may also be used in detergents, in animal feed and/or in pulp and paper industry, or in hydrolysis of lignocellulosic material for, e.g. bioethanol production.

Fungal endoglucanases, their production and use

The present invention is related to a fungal serine protease enzyme, which comprises an amino acid sequence the mature Fa_RF7182 enzyme having an amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 18. The serine protease is obtainable from, more preferably from the deposited strain CBS 124084. Also disclosed are nucleic acid sequences encoding said protease, such as plasmid pALK2530 comprising the nucleotide sequence SEQ ID NO:12 deposited inRF7803 under accession number DSM 22208 and plasmid pALK2531 comprising the full-length gene SEQ ID NO: 13 deposited inRF7879 under accession number DSM 22209, as well as fungal hosts, such as. Said protease is useful as an enzyme preparation applicable in detergent compositions and for treating fibers, for treating wool, for treating hair, for treating leather, for treating food or feed, or for any applications involving modification, degradation or removal of proteinaceous material.

A method of removing color from wood pulp is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of preparing a wood pulp, treating the wood pulp with the xylanase wherein the xylanase is capable of releasing chromophores from the pulp and extracting the wood pulp to remove chromophores. Also disclosed are substantially purified preparations of xylanase enzymes from bacterial isolates.

Method of removing color from kraft wood pulps

A method of removing color from wood pulp is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of preparing a wood pulp, treating the wood pulp with the xylanase wherein the xylanase is capable of releasing chromophores from the pulp and extracting the wood pulp to remove chromophores. Also disclosed are substantially purified preparations of xylanase enzymes from bacterial isolates. The xylanase is preferrably isolated xyl 3 obtained from Streptomyces roseiscleroticus NRRL B-11019, wherein xyl 3 has a molecular weight of approximately 21 kD as determined by SDS-gel electrophoresis and a pH optima of pH 5.0-7.0.
