The disclosure describes methods of managing the power consumption of a GNSS receiver by identifying when to activate and deactivate the GNSS receiver, and by managing storage of GNSS location data points. In one embodiment, the GNSS receiver is activated if there is a change in wireless transmissions from stationary sources. In another embodiment, the GNSS receiver is deactivated when the GNSS signal quality is sufficient to calculate a GNSS location. In another embodiment, the GNSS receiver is deactivated for a time period in correlation with a GNSS speed. In yet another embodiment, redundant GNSS location data points are identified and only non-redundant data points are stored. In yet another embodiment, a GNSS device comprises a processor and a GNSS receiver configured to track GNSS signals and calculate a GNSS location. The GNSS receiver deactivates when the average signal quality value meets or exceeds the baseline signal value.

Systems and methods for managing power consumption of a GNSS receiver

A mobile wireless communications device includes a housing and circuit board carried by the housing and includes radio frequency (RF) circuitry and a processor carried by the circuit board and operative with each other. A display connector for an LCD connector is mounted on the circuit board and adapted to be connected to a display. Display connection lines are carried by the circuit board and interconnect the display connector and processor for carrying signals from the processor to the display connector and a connected display. Filters are carried by the circuit board and connected to the display connection lines and reduce any interfering energy from the processor and display.

A mobile wireless communications device includes a housing an antenna, and radio frequency (RF) circuitry. A transceiver is connected to the antenna and a processor is operative with the RF circuitry. The transceiver includes an In-phase and Quadrature (I/Q) Modulation and Power Amplification circuit having an In-phase (I) circuit with a modulator mixer and power amplifier circuit. A Quadrature (Q) circuit includes a modulator mixer and power amplifier circuit. A power combiner receives the separately amplified In-phase and Quadrature signals and sums and outputs the signals as a combined I and Q signal. The I and Q circuits are isolated from the combined I and Q signal to enhance antenna matching and transmitted radiated power (TRP) and reduce harmonic emission from the power amplification circuits.

In use in a battery, a first spiral-wound battery element and associated wiring generates a first magnetic field and a second spiral-wound battery element and associated wiring generates a second magnetic field. The first element, the second element and the wiring may be arranged within a casing so that the first magnetic field is proximate to the second magnetic field and oriented in an opposite polarity. Conveniently, it may be shown that the total magnetic field generated by the battery has significantly lower magnitude than the total magnetic field generated by a conventional battery for the same current drain and same wiring structure.

A system and method for reducing uplink noise in a mobile communications device, the system including: a noise estimator for estimating noise in proximity to the mobile communication device; an adjustable filter for receiving a signal from a microphone of the mobile communication device; an adjustable attenuation block for receiving a filtered signal from the adjustable filter; a controller configured to: monitor the estimated noise; and adjust the adjustable filter and adjustable attenuation block based on the estimated noise. In particular, the controller may be configured to adjust the adjustable filter by increasing the depth of the filtering for higher estimated noise levels and adjust the attenuation by increasing the attenuation for higher estimated noise levels.

In accordance with a non-limiting aspect, a mobile wireless communications device includes a housing, at least one circuit board carried by the housing, radio frequency (RF) circuitry, and a processor. An antenna is operative with the RF circuitry. A charging circuit charges a battery carried by and powers the device and includes at least one charging contact carried by the housing and configured for engaging an external charging cradle when connected thereto. It includes an internal connector extending to at least one circuit board and connecting to the charging circuitry. An RF filter includes a ferrite material surrounding at least a portion of the internal connector to minimize RE coupling from the at least one charging contact to the antenna and reduce transmitter harmonics emission and receiver de-sense.

A mobile wireless communications device may include a portable device housing, wireless communications circuitry carried by the portable device housing, and a self-contained rechargeable battery pack carried by the portable housing for powering the wireless communications circuitry. The self-contained rechargeable battery pack may include a battery casing, at least one internal battery cell carried within the battery casing, internal battery circuitry carried within the battery casing, and at least one internal filter element carried within the battery casing and coupled to the internal battery circuitry.

A mobile wireless communications device includes a housing, antenna, and circuit board carried by the housing and having radio frequency (RF) circuitry operative with the antenna for receiving and transmitting RF signals through the antenna. A power amplifier is connected within a transmission line for amplifying RF signals to be transmitted over the transmission line to the antenna. An antenna switch is connected to the antenna and RF circuitry. An RF shield surrounds the power amplifier and antenna switch and isolates the power amplifier and antenna switch from the antenna and RF circuitry. A low pass filter is connected to the power amplifier and antenna switch for reducing any RF coupling of voltage standing waves of upper harmonic frequencies from the power amplifier into the antenna switch through the RF shield while maintaining transmission of signals through the transmission line at a desired fundamental frequency.

A mobile wireless communications device may include a housing, and circuitry carried by the housing. The circuitry may include a wireless transceiver, a wireless broadcast receiver, audio circuitry coupled to the wireless transceiver and the wireless broadcast receiver, a wired headset jack, and a reference voltage device line, and at least one wired headset device line coupled between the audio circuitry and the wired headset jack. The reference voltage device line may be also coupled to the wireless broadcast receiver so that a corresponding reference voltage headset line of a wired headset serves as an antenna for the wireless broadcast receiver. The reference voltage line may be switchable to one or more connectors at the headset jack.

A mobile wireless communications device may include a portable housing, and an antenna carried by the portable housing. The mobile wireless communications device may further include wireless communications circuitry carried by the portable housing and an adjustable impedance matching network coupled between the wireless communications circuitry and the antenna. An audio input transducer and an audio output transducer may be carried by the portable housing. The mobile wireless communications device may further include a controller carried by the portable housing and configured to determine an acoustic coupling between the audio input transducer and the audio output transducer. The controller may further be configured to adjust the adjustable impedance matching network based upon the determined acoustic coupling.

A power distribution network includes multiple charge storage components and multiple charging circuits to control the charging and discharging of the charge storage components, which may comprise a battery and a supercapacitor. By appropriate arrangement and selection of the storage components, ripple in the power supply voltage, whose propagation to other components relying on the power distribution network may cause an audible buzz, may be significantly reduced. Additionally, appropriate arrangement and selection of the storage components, electromagnetic interference may also be significantly reduced. Optionally, an electromagnetic interference filter may be placed between the charge storage components.

A microphone audio switch and receiver speaker audio switch are carried by the circuit board and are connected with audio connection lines that interconnect the processor. A filter is operative with the audio connection lines and operatively connected to at least one of the microphone audio switch or receiver speaker audio switch to reduce conducted and radiated interfering RF energy from coupling into the audio circuitry.
