A method for delivering water through a fire hydrant is disclosed and includes unlocking a sprinkler cap control lock on the fire hydrant, removing the sprinkler cap control lock to access an operating nut of the fire hydrant and activating the operating nut to deliver water through a plurality of sprinkler ports in at least one of a plurality of caps on the fire hydrant. Also disclosed are fire hydrant with a lubricant channel and a method of lubricating a fire hydrant operation nut. Also disclosed is a fire hydrant that does not need a lubricant disposed between the operation nut and the fire hydrant body due to an operating nut sleeve being disposed between the operation nut and the fire hydrant body.

Fire hydrant operating nut and method for lubricating the operating nut

An opening tool for a locking cap of a fire hydrant includes a collar with multiple protrusions that can attach to corresponding protrusions provided on an outer surface of the locking cap. The opening tool also includes a main support portion coupled to the collar, a guide supported by the main support portion, the guide including a shaft support, a pin moveably disposed within the guide and a cam lever rotatably coupled to the guide by a shaft. The shaft extending through the cam lever. The shaft being supported by a shaft support. The cam lever including a cam surface in contact with a first end of the pin. The cam surface including a first flat surface, a second flat surface and a curved surface that extends between the first flat surface and the second flat surface.

Locking fire hydrant

A locking fire hydrant includes a fire hydrant body having an internal channel extending between a main cap recess and an auxiliary cap recess defined therein. A plunger assembly including first and second plungers is disposed within the internal channel. The first plunger is disposed such that an end thereof is capable of extending into a main cap recess and the second plunger is disposed such that an end thereof is capable of extending into an auxiliary cap recess. When the second plunger is actuated by mounting a locking cap on the fire hydrant body, one of the ratchet teeth provided on the back side of the auxiliary cap engages the second plunger to prevent the auxiliary cap from being removed from the fire hydrant body. A locking cap, an opening tool, and methods of securing an auxiliary cap to a fire hydrant also are described.

A method of draining a standpipe includes moving a valve control device toward a closed position sufficient to uncover at least one drain hole before the valve control device achieves a fully closed position, the at least one drain hole being disposed in a slot of a saturation ring and draining a contents of the standpipe through a drain route to an external portion of the standpipe, the drain route is defined by the drain hole in the valve seat ring, drain ports in the drain ring, outlet notches and a drain channel in the saturation ring. The drain hole is radially offset from each of the drain ports in the drain ring and each of the drain ports are radially offset from each of the outlet notches in the saturation ring. A valve control device is also disclosed.

Fire hydrant control valve

A valve control device includes an operating stem, a valve top plate, a valve seat rubber, a valve bottom plate, and a valve seat ring. The valve top plate has a conical base with at least three stabilizer arms extending therefrom. Each of the at least three stabilizer arms has a flat outer surface. The valve bottom plate secures the valve seat rubber between the valve bottom plate and a flat bottom surface of the valve top plate. The valve bottom plate, the valve seat rubber, and the conical base are mounted on the operating stem. The valve seat ring has multiple slots, with each of the slots corresponding to one of the at least three stabilizer arms. A standpipe drain system, a method of draining a standpipe, and a locking fire hydrant with a valve access channel drain also are described.

A locking fire hydrant includes a fire hydrant body having an outlet port, a valve access hole, and an outer surface with a recess defined therein. The recess is configured to receive a locking cap for closing off the outlet port and the valve access hole. A locking cap for closing off the outlet port and the valve access hole is mounted on the fire hydrant body such that the locking cap is received in the recess defined in the outer surface of the fire hydrant body. The recess shields an interface between the locking cap and the fire hydrant body from access by unauthorized tools. A fire hydrant body, a method for restricting unauthorized access to a fire hydrant, and a method for locking an auxiliary cap to a fire hydrant also are described.

A security device and system for preventing unauthorized access to and operation of fire hydrants. The security device includes a first end portion for coupling the device to a portion of a fire hydrant. The first end portion preferably is coupled to the hydrant by clamping it between an outlet port of the hydrant and a cap for covering the outlet port. A second end portion covers a valve control device of the hydrant to control access to the valve control device and thereby prevent unauthorized persons from activating it. An intermediate portion integral with the first and second end portions extends vertically from the first end portion to the second end portion. The system for preventing unauthorized operation of a fire hydrant includes the security device described above, a bonnet for protecting a valve control device of the hydrant, and a locking cap for closing an outlet port of the hydrant. The system also may include a tool for removing the locking cap from the outlet port and for opening the valve control device.
