A monitoring system includes one or more detection devices, a communication device, and an analytics system. The one or more detection devices generate, at a conveyance system, one or more data streams describing the ride of the conveyance system, where the data streams include at least one of vibration data and audio data. The communication device transmits sensor data based on the one or more data streams. The analytics system receives the sensor data from the communication device and, based on the sensor data, determines a ride quality of the conveyance system.

An illustrative example method of controlling an elevator situated in a hoistway of a building includes detecting sway of the building, determining characteristics of the detected sway including a plurality of frequencies and associated periods of the sway, determining an expected sway of an elongated member of the elevator system based on the determined characteristics, and controlling at least one of position and movement of an elevator car in the hoistway based on the expected sway.

Measurement and diagnostic of elevator door performance using sound and video

An illustrative example elevator system includes a hoistway that establishes a vertical pathway. The hoistway has an interior border established by a plurality of stationary boundaries. The interior border defines a first area. An elevator car is within the hoistway and has an exterior border that defines a second area that is smaller than the first area. At least one hoistway liner assembly is situated in the hoistway. The hoistway liner assembly includes a plurality of bumpers that collectively establish a protected area that is smaller than the first area and larger than the second area such that the elevator car can move through the protected area. The protected area prevents contact between the load bearing assembly and the interior border of the hoistway.

An illustrative example elevator system includes a hoistway that establishes a vertical pathway. The hoistway has an interior border established by a plurality of stationary boundaries that each have a height aligned with a vertical length of the hoistway. Each of the stationary boundaries has a width generally perpendicular to the height. An elevator car is within the hoistway. At least one vertically extending load bearing assembly includes a plurality of elongated load bearing members extending along a vertical path and facilitating movement or support of the elevator car. At least one hoistway liner assembly is situated in the hoistway. The hoistway liner assembly includes a plurality of bumpers that each have an axis that is generally perpendicular to the vertical length of the hoistway. The axes of at least two of the bumpers are non-parallel. The bumpers collectively establish a protected area sufficient for preventing contact between the load bearing assembly and the interior border of the hoistway if there is lateral movement of any of the load bearing members relative to the vertical path in at least two generally perpendicular directions.

A passenger conveyor diagnostic system includes a mobile terminal in signal communication with a cloud computing network. The cloud computing network stores at least one diagnostic algorithm. The mobile terminal device is configured to determine ride quality data of a passenger conveyor system, and to exchange the ride quality data with the cloud computing network. The mobile terminal device further displays one or more diagnostic results which are received from the cloud computing network. The diagnostic result is generated by the cloud computing network in response to applying the at least one diagnostic algorithm to the ride quality data.

An exemplary system for monitoring an elevator arrangement includes a detector arranged to detect conditions or events in, on or near an associated elevator car. A monitoring device monitors a status of the associated elevator car. The monitoring device communicates with the detector for receiving data indicative of any event or condition detected by the detector. The monitoring device provides an output that associates the status of the elevator car at a time of any detected event or condition with an indication of the detected event or condition including a reproduction of the detected event or condition.

Remotely observable analysis for an elevator system

A pulse free escalator system has two spaced apart pulse free turnaround sections and at least one pulse-free transition zone. A method of designing the turnaround sections and the at least one transition zone is described herein. The escalator system has a pair of guide tracks and a pair of linkage assemblies, each comprising a plurality of links joined together. Each linkage assembly has a plurality of rollers for supporting the linkage assembly which travel in a respective one of the guide tracks. Each guide track has two spaced apart turnaround portions with each turnaround portion defining a travel path for each roller having a linear entry section, a linear exit section, and a pulse-free section intermediate the two sections.

The position and direction (0-27, FIG.,) of each elevator car (A-D) in a group of cars is recorded along with time and traffic rate of the elevator group to provide a data stream. The canonic representation of the position and direction data is reduced, to eliminate symmetry (FIGS.,and,) resulting from the relative positions and directions of the cars being the same except for the identification of which car is at which position and direction. An entropy estimation algorithm is used to provide a plot of entropy as a function of time, which is then translated from the other data in the stream to entropy as a function of traffic rate (FIG.,). A maximum traffic rate is chosen, and thereafter, during normal operation, if the current rate is higher than the maximum, an elevator group parameter is altered to increase the traffic-handling capability of the group, but if the current traffic rate is lower than the maximum, an elevator parameter is altered in a manner to decrease the traffic-handling capability of the group.
