The modular sensor device also includes a power unit coupled to a first side of the base, where the power unit receives power from a power source, and where the power unit includes one or more devices that control conditions in an environment of the living space. The modular sensor device also includes a control module removably coupled to a second side of the base, where the module receives power from the power unit, and where the control module performs one or more predetermined control functions.

In some implementations, a sensor device performs operations including detecting an activity in the living space, determining contextual security information, and determining an occurrence of an intrusion event based on the activity in the living space. In response to the occurrence of the intrusion event, the device is operative to perform further operations including sending a notification to one or more destinations based on the intrusion event, and activating one or more surveillance devices based on the intrusion event.

In response to the occurrence of the adverse health event, the sensor device performs operations including one or more of sending a notification to one or more destinations based on the adverse health event and activating one or more surveillance devices based on the adverse health event.
