This invention describes a thermoelectric energy generation device based on the ExB drift in a semiconductor. The material is in depletion mode to avoid cancellation of the electric field by space charges. Under ideal, infinite mobility, zero-collision conditions, electrons and holes drift in the same direction, perpendicularly to the electric and magnetic fields, resulting in a zero-output current. However, when mobility is finite, their differing properties such as mobility, effective mass, and charge, manifest themselves as different drift velocity and drift direction resulting in a net output current and power. This invention leverages carriers' properties to accentuate these differences and maximize the output power. Quantities being optimized include, mobility, the product of mobility and the magnetic field, positioning electrodes along the drift axis of the overriding carriers, and adjusting the thickness of the semiconductor layer to accommodate the cycloid motion of one type of carrier but not the other.

ExB drift thermoelectric energy generation device

The air conditioning system uses an air cycle thermodynamic process. The system comprises a centrifuge. This centrifuge includes at one of its ends, an axial inlet that funnels air into a centrifugal compressor rotating in unison with the centrifuge. The air is compressed, adiabatically heated and directed to a heat exchanger mounted in the rim of, and rotating with the centrifuge. The air is accelerated with respect the centrifuge by varying the centrifuge radius or by using forward leaning impeller blades. The air is cooled by the heat exchanger and directed to an expander also rotating with the centrifuge. The air is expanded and adiabatically further cooled. The cold air exits the centrifuge through an axial outlet located at the second end of the centrifuge.

This invention is a method and apparatus for drying wet objects, comprising passing air through the wet objects thereby having air absorb moisture from said wet objects; compressing the air adiabatically, thereby heating it; extracting heat from the air by passing it through the hot side of a heat exchanger thereby cooling it; expanding the air adiabatically, thereby cooling it further, below its dew point; separating the condensate from the air; restoring to the air all or part of the heat by passing it through the second side of the heat exchanger; and redirecting all or part of the air back to the wet objects thereby forming a loop in the flow of the air.

Air cycle heat pump dryer

A telepresence system comprising a workstation which allows a user to specify a venue located at a remote site. The workstation accepts control information from, and conveys sensory information to, the user. The telepresence system also comprises several remotely controlled systems at remote locations, which carry sensors collecting sensory information from their environment. Each remotely controlled system also requires human assistance to operate according to control information sent by the user. The telepresence system also comprises a means for allocating one of the remotely controlled systems to the specified venue. The telepresence system also comprises a means for allocating a human assistant to assist the allocated remote system. The telepresence system also comprises a bi-directional communication channel which links the workstation to the allocated remote system and transmits control information from the workstation to the allocated remote system and sensory information from the allocated remote system to the workstation.

Telepresence by human-assisted remote controlled devices and robots

An antiglare optical device for selectively attenuating bright light sources in an object field. This device comprises at the object end, the optics necessary for focusing incoming rays onto a focal plane, at the eyepiece end, the optics necessary to view the image of the object field, and at the focal plane, a photochromic layer for moderating rays originating from intense objects in the object field. A sharp focusing of the object field on the photochromic layer is achieved by means of asymmetrical optical components such as polarizing beam splitter and half lenses.

Antiglare optical device

Lie detection system utilizing manual or verbal reaction time to carefully crafted questions used to discriminate between liars and truth-tellers. The invention comprises the hardware and software required to perform the response speed test as well as the questionnaire composition methodology. Discrimination between liars and truth-tellers is enhanced by asking questions requiring simple answers such as 'Yes,' or 'No,' and containing an element of surprise to force the liar to manufacture lies on the spur of the moment. His task is further complicated by adding logical inversion levels in his mind using 'lying-on-command,' negations and double negations. Response time variations between individuals and between questions are reduced by means of controlled questions and controlled subjects, random delays in question presentation, delays in the key word presentation and randomization of question order. Strategies for countering countermeasures of liars are based on statistical techniques, priming and assigning concurrent tasks. Advantages include: no need to wire the subject to a machine, objective assessment made by computer software with minimal input from an operator, and remote operation of the device through a telecommunication medium (modem).

Lie detector system using reaction time

A viewing device that selectively attenuates light from bright objects, leaving light from dim objects substantially unaffected. The invention comprises an array of optical systems each of which contains one or more focusing elements which focus an image of the object field onto a focal plane, and one or more eyepiece elements for viewing portions of the focused image. The optical systems in the array are aligned to permit the viewed portions to be seen coherently to form a composite view of the object field. A photoactive layer is located at the focal plane. The photoactive layer may be a photochromic system that darkens when exposed to intense light and returns to the clear state when the intensity is substantially reduced. The light path through the device is folded using optical elements such as mirrors or prisms to minimize the size of the device. The photoactive layer may be a system of several layers functioning as a light valve. A preferred embodiment utilizes a liquid crystal in contact with a photoconductive layer to provide the photoactive layer. Preferred embodiments of the invention are utilized to provide a motor vehicle rearview mirror and a forward looking visor.

A device for viewing an object field containing intense light sources which could be disturbing or harmful to the human eye. Light from the object field is focused at a focal plane located within a layer of photochromic material. An intense light source produces an opaque mask in the photochromic layer. This mask matches the location and shape of the image of the intense light source at the image plane. An eyepiece permits a viewer to view the image plane to obtain an image of the object field with light from the intense light source dimmed by the opaque mask in the photochromic layer.

An optical filter device comprised of two parallel arrays of lenses. Each lens in the first array faces a lens in the second array to form a pixel. Lens pairs in a pixel are separated by the sum of their focal distances and include in their common focal surface a 'smart' layer for modulating light passing through the focal surface. Preferred embodiments include car rear view mirrors, sunglasses, glasses for night driving, laser goggles, nuclear goggles, sun visors, sun shields, windshields, space suit helmet visors, optical instrument protection devices, window filters and energy conservation devices.
