A fuel delivery system for a direct injection internal combustion engine having two fuel rails and a plurality of fuel injectors attached to and fluidly connected with each fuel rail. A first fuel pump has its output connected with the first fuel rail while a second fuel pump has its output connected with the second fuel rail. A crossover pipe fluidly connects the outlets of both the first and second pumps. Both the first pump and the second pump each have an intake stroke and a pumping stroke. Furthermore, the intake stroke of the first pump coincides with the pumping stroke of the second pump and vice versa.

Fuel delivery system

A fuel pump for a direct injection internal combustion engine having a housing defining a pump chamber. Driven and idler toothed gears are rotatably mounted within the pump chamber so that the driven and idler gears are in mesh with each other at a predetermined location in the pump chamber. A fluid inlet is formed through the housing and open to an inlet subchamber in the pump chamber. A fluid outlet is also formed through the housing and open to an outlet subchamber in the pump chamber. A pressure relief passageway fluidly connects the inlet subchamber to the outlet subchamber and a valve is disposed in series with the pressure relief passageway. A control circuit controls the actuation of the valve to control the pump pressure at the pump outlet.

Fuel pump for an internal combustion engine

A method and apparatus for developing microcomputer-based systems. A controller model having at least one parameter is simulated and, similarly, a plant model having at least one parameter and controlled by the controller model is simulated. A user interface then has access to the parameters of the controller model and plant model and optionally suspends the execution of the controller model and plant model in response to a trigger event. The user interface determines the status of the controller model parameters and/or plant model parameters at the time of the trigger without altering the controller model parameters or plant model parameters or the program code of the controller model.

Method and apparatus for simulating microcomputer-based systems

A controller for a power inverter having a gate assembly with an alternating current power output. A gate driver controls the activation of the gate assembly while a processor controls the operation of the gate driver. A current sensor has an output signal representative of the current at the power output. A noise detector circuit provides an output signal to the processor of the frequency of electromagnetic noise in the power inverter and the processor is programmed to sample the current from the current sensor at the frequency of the noise.

Power inverter controller and method

A method and apparatus for developing multicore microcomputer-based systems. A dual core controller model having at least one parameter is simulated and, similarly, a plant model having at least one parameter and controlled by the controller model is also simulated. The user interface then has access to the parameters of the controller model and plant model and optionally suspends execution of the controller model and plant model in response to a trigger event. The user interface determines the status of the various controller model parameters for both cores and/or plant model parameters at the time of the trigger without altering the controller model parameters or the plant model parameters. The core parameters for both cores are displayed on a display device.

Apparatus and method to develop multi-core microcomputer-based systems

A fuel pump for a direct injection internal combustion engine having a body with a valve seat. The valve includes a valve head and the valve is movably mounted to the body between an open position and a closed position. In its open position, the valve head is spaced from the valve seat white in its closed position, the valve head abuts against the valve seat and closes the valve. An electric coil upon energization moves the valve to an open position and, conversely, upon deenergization allows the valve to move to a closed position. A control circuit controls the energization of the coil to reduce the pump noise during operation of the engine, especially at low speeds.

Fuel pump control for a direct injection internal combustion engine

A power inverter of the type used with hybrid electric vehicles having a circuit board with a power layer having a first and second section which are electrically separated using slits from each other on the power layer. A control circuit is connected to and powered by the first section of the power layer while a switching power supply is connected to and powered by the second section of the power layer. An electromagnetic filter is electrically connected between the sections of the power layer. This electromagnetic filter blocks high frequency noises of the type generated by the switching power supply while enabling the sections to be maintained at the same DC voltage level. Optionally, a ferrite covering is provided around a current bus bar of the power inverter to contain magnetic fields generated by current flow through the bus bar.

EMI reduced power inverter

A system which detects droplets on a translucent surface having a camera which, upon activation, acquires an image of a portion of the surface. A radiation source, upon activation, illuminates the portion of the translucent surface while a control circuit selectively activates both the camera and the radiation source. A processor receives a captured image from the camera and, through image processing, generates an output signal representative of the number of droplets on the portion of the translucent surface.

A method for generating computer software for a microprocessor in an embedded system in which the system includes an input/output system (BIOS), at least one input/output channel, an application layer having at least one code module which processes input/output signals from its associated channel in the BIOS, and an operating system which schedules execution of events in the application layer. A graphical user interface (GUI) is used to select channels of the BIOS by functionality, program code modules in the application layer to process the input/output signals from the BIOS and to schedule event processing in the operating system.

Method for generating computer software for embedded systems

A cold start fuel control system is disclosed for use with an internal combustion engine having a plurality of combustion chambers, a source of fuel and an intake manifold having an inlet and an outlet port connected to each combustion chamber. The system includes a cold start fuel injector assembly having an inlet and an outlet to provide a vapor fuel charge during a cold start engine condition. The cold start fuel injector assembly inlet is fluidly connected to the source of fuel. An auxiliary intake manifold has an internal chamber and the cold start fuel injector assembly outlet is fluidly connected to the auxiliary intake manifold chamber. The auxiliary intake manifold chamber is then fluidly connected through a control orifice to each of the combustion chambers at a position downstream from the inlet of the primary intake manifold. A control circuit optionally controls the area of the control orifice to minimize noxious emissions from the engine and a shroud is optionally associated with each control orifice to enhance mixing of the vapor fuel with the inducted airflow to also minimize noxious emissions from the engine.

Fuel control system

A system for compensation of contamination of a heated element in a heated element gas flow system in which the heated element becomes heated from an ambient temperature to an elevated temperature upon the application of electrical power to the heated element during a startup time period. The system includes a processing circuit having an input and an output. A voltage signal from the heated element is connected to the input of the processing circuit. The processing circuit reads a plurality of temporally spaced input signals as data from the processing circuit input during the startup time period. The processing circuit then computes the parameters of a transfer function corresponding to the data on its input. The processing circuit then calculates a contamination correction factor as a function of at least one parameter of the transfer function. The processing circuit then utilizes the correction factor to modify a measured gas flow rate by the gas flow meter after the heated element attains the elevated steady state temperature to compensate for contamination of the heated element.

System and method for compensation of contamination of a heated element in a heated element gas flow sensor

A method and a system are disclosed for identifying a gas type. The system includes a first sensor in contact with the gas and which produces a first electrical output signal indicative of a first condition of the gas. Similarly, a second sensor is also in contact with the gas and produces a second electrical output signal indicative of a second condition of the gas. A processor receives the output signals as input signals from the first and second sensors and determines the type of gas by calculation or from lookup tables stored in memory accessible to the processor. The first and second conditions of the gas are selected from the group of temperature, mass flow rate, temperature and pressure.

Method and system for identifying a type of gas

An improved hot wire gas flow sensor is disclosed having a housing with a passageway in series with a passageway through which the gas flow is measured. The housing includes both a hot wire and cold wire disposed within the passageway. A current circuit maintains the temperature differential between the hot wire and cold wire preferably in the range of 30&deg; C. to 100&deg; C. by varying the current flow through the hot wire. Current limiting circuitry is then utilized to limit the current flow through the hot wire and thus the temperature of the hot wire in order to prevent possible combustion of the gas in the passageway. Additionally, a current augmenting circuit augments the current flow through the hot wire for a limited period of time following the electrical energization of the flow sensor in order to provide rapid heat up of the hot wire in the hot wire sensor. Improvements are also disclosed for fluidly sealing the electrical leads to both the hot wire and cold wire to prevent gas leakage from the sensor.
