A laboratory fume hood system for cooling at least one laboratory device located in an interior work area comprises a heat exchanger system having a heat exchanger in thermal communication with a primary fluid loop containing chilled fluid and a secondary fluid loop containing a cooling fluid which is in thermal communication the laboratory device. The primary fluid loop is located behind the fume hood wall and not in the interior work area.

A biosensor system comprises a capillary substrate, conductive electrode, and a plurality of nanoparticles having an enzyme deposited thereon formed in a cavity at one end of the capillary substrate. The substrate may have an optional reinforcing layer (which may be conductive or non-conductive) and optional insulating layer thereon. A cannula having an optional conductive layer, insulating layer, and reference electrode may also form part of the system.

Tissue implantable microbiosensor

An apparatus for providing coolant fluid to a device, the apparatus includes a heat exchanger having a hot side and a cold side. The cold side is in fluid communication with a chilled fluid supply and adapted to receive a first fluid from the chilled fluid supply in a first inlet and return the first fluid from the cold side to the chilled fluid supply. The cold side and the chilled fluid supply form a first fluid circuit. The apparatus further includes a second fluid circuit in fluid communication with the hot side, means for introducing a second fluid within the second fluid circuit and integral thereto, a pump integral to the second fluid circuit and adapted to transmit a second fluid within the second fluid circuit and means for controlling a rate of flow of the second fluid within the second fluid circuit. The device is within the second fluid circuit and the means for controlling the rate of flow operates in the absence of internal recirculation.

Apparatus for providing coolant fluid

Improved biosensors are provided having excellent selectivity and stability properties, together with methods of preparing the biosensors. A preferred biosensor includes an electrode ( ) having enzyme ( ) deposited thereon together with a layer of electropolymerized polymer ( ) intermingled with the enzyme ( ); a crosslinked silane film ( ) is applied over the polymer layer ( ), and a final coating ( ) of polyurethane is formed over the film ( ). In preparative procedures, the enzyme ( ) is electrodeposited using an aqueous enzyme solution containing a nonionic surfactant at a concentration level preferably in excess of the critical micelle concentration of the surfactant. In the case of a glucose sensor, the polymer layer ( ) is preferably polyphenol, while the silane film is crosslinked (3-aminopropyl) trimethoxysilane. The preferred biosensors have greatly enhanced selectivity stabilities.

Method for depositing an enzyme on an electrically conductive substrate

Implantable enzymatic sensors (25, 43, 44) for biochemicals such as glucose are provided having an ideal size and geometry for optional long term implantation and linear responses over the concentration ranges of interest. The sensors (25, 43, 44) include an elongated body (10, 26, 46) supporting an indicating electrode section having an appropriate enzyme immobilized thereon to present an enzymatic indicating surface (21, 33, 54). A permeable synthetic polymer membrane (24, 42, 56) is applied over the sensor body (10, 26, 46) to protect the enzyme and regulate diffusion of analyte therethrough, to ensure linearity of sensor response. The sensors (25, 43) are of flexible design and can be implanted using a catheter. Alternately, the sensor (44) includes an internal indicating electrode body (46) housed within an apertured, hollow needle (48). A holder (66) affixed to the needle (48) allows for easy manipulation and implantation of the sensor (44).

An arc welding system for welding the edges of an irregularly contoured product comprising facially opposed sections held in joined position wherein, in the embodiment illustrated, a pair of arc welding torches, having arc generating tips are supported in product straddling relationship on a carriage for welding travel along different irregularly contoured lengths of the perimetral marginal boundary of the product, and control mechanism is provided for simultaneously altering the position of each torch tip in a portion of its welding travel to maintain each torch tip axis substantially perpendicular to the path of travel.
