A cyclone assembly comprising a hollow body having a generally conical portion and a tubular insert body having a generally conical portion disposed at least partially within said hollow body coaxial therewith and adjacent the smaller end of the conical portion of said hollow body, the hollow body and the insert body having interengageable formations, projecting as to one of the bodies and receiving as to the other, for preventing longitudinal movement of the insert body with respect to the hollow body.

A gauge means according to the present invention comprises a gauge face and indicator means disposed adjacent the face, at least a part of the indicator means extending along the face in a first direction, and at least a part of the indicator means being movable along the face in a second direction generally transverse to the first. A first scale comprises a first series of indicia marks progressing longitudinally along the extending part of the indicator. Each mark of the first series corresponds to a given value of a first parameter. A second scale comprises a second series of indicia lines each of which extends along the face angularly with respect to the first and second directions. Each line of the second series corresponds to a given value of a second parameter. The movement of the movable part of the indicator means is responsive to a third parameter. The first, second, and third parameters are functionally related. The gauge means may be associated with a fluid handling apparatus containing a fluid having a fluid head. One of the first two parameters is a function of the density of the fluid and the other is a function of the fluid head. The third parameter is the pressure of the fluid, and the movable part of the indicator means is operably exposed to this pressure.

The present invention relates to detection and measurement of wear in machines having relatively rotating housings and parts such as radially extending blades subject to wear which may exceed a critical degree, and in particular to the measurement and predetermination of wear and of conveyance capacity of a scroll type conveyor. The invention includes the use of a measuring device for measuring the distance between the radially outer edge of a portion of the conveyor blade and a reference point in the housing radially and longitudinally fixed with respect to the axis of the conveyor. This measurement is preferably taken at a predetermined first portion of the blade such that the measurement at said first portion is indicative of the wear and/or conveyance capacity of one or more other portions of the blade.
