Continuous oxidation of rubbery polymeric hyrocarbons by mixing an oxygen-containing gas and a hot solution of the polymer in an oleaginous solvent at the inlet to a spraying device and spraying the mixture into a hot chamber provides substantially instantaneous oxidation of the polymer and disengagement of gas and liquid and at least the same extent of oxidation as the time consuming oxidation accomplished by sparging such gas into a volume of stirred hot solution.

Oxidation of rubbery polymeric hydrocarbons

This invention provides a process for the oxidation of copolymers of ethylene and olefinic monomers in the temperature range of from about -40.degree. F to about 800.degree. F. The oxidation is carried out in the presence of about 0.05 weight percent to about 1.0 weight percent based on copolymer/oil solution, of an oil soluble benzene sulfonic acid or salt thereof. These benzene sulfonic acids or salts thereof affect the rate of the oxidation reaction and/or the color of the oxidized product or amine reaction products thereof.

Oxidation of polymers in presence of benzene sulfonic acid or salt

Title compounds are novel oil-soluble, detergent-dispersant addition products for crankcase lubricating oils and are prepared by reacting a primary or secondary amine with 1-chloro-2-methylpropenyl substituted alkane hydrocarbons, especially 1-chloro-2-methylpropenyl terminated butene polymers, having a total of 20 to 180 carbon atoms.
