An alignment tool for use in inspecting a ring gear of a gearbox. The ring gear includes an outer surface and a plurality of gear teeth extending radially inwardly from the outer surface. The alignment tool includes a support member that extends between a leading edge and a trailing edge. The support member is removably mountable to the ring gear outer surface such that the leading edge is oriented substantially parallel to a forward surface of the ring gear. A guide member extends outwardly from the support member. The guide member includes a guide edge that is oriented with respect to a centerline of a gear tooth.

Alignment tool for use with a wind turbine inspection system and methods of assembling same

An apparatus and method are provided for installing a seal into a part. A main body of the apparatus has two wings, and a raised shoulder that extends along the main body and two wings. A bracket is attached to the main body, and has an internally threaded hole for engagement with a threaded knob. An installation member is attached to the main body, and includes an insertion wheel attached to a wheel carrier. The wheel carrier is configured to be slidably attached to the main body. The main body is mounted on a first portion of the part and the seal is at least partially installed in a second portion of the part, such that upon relative rotation between the first portion of the part and the second portion of the part the installation member installs the seal.

Method and apparatus for installing a seal

A method and system for ultrasonically inspecting a ring gear of a gearbox is provided. The method and system can be used for the detection, characterization and/or sizing of defects in the ring gear. The ring gear has a plurality of teeth, which extend radially inward with respect to an outer surface of the gearbox. The method includes the steps of selecting an ultrasonic transducer productive of a test signal, positioning the ultrasonic transducer at an outer surface of the ring gear, orienting the ultrasonic transducer so as to direct the test signal to propagate through the ring gear, and activating the ultrasonic transducer so as to test the ring gear for defects therein.

Method and system for ultrasonic inspection of gearbox ring gear

A liquid-cooled armature bar end fitting-to-strand brazed connection. The end fitting is comprised of a main body and a cover, and defines a cavity, a bottom wall of which is defined in part by the cover. An armature winding bar strand package including solid strands and hollow strands arranged in a tiered array extends into the end fitting so that at least the free ends of the hollow strands extend beyond the bottom wall, into the cavity. The side wall of the cavity is spaced from the hollow strands. A braze alloy joins the strands to each other and to the end fitting. The braze alloy forms an isolation layer over the free ends of the solid strands and over the said bottom wall of the cavity to a depth above a horizontal junction between the main body and the cover.
