A high-frequency, low-amplitude corrugated fin for a heat exchanger assembly includes a plate member that extends horizontally and vertically to define a reference plane. The plate member has a plurality of conduit portions, a first and second series of corrugated segments formed in the plate member. The first and second series of corrugated segments undulate generally equidistantly relative to and from the reference plane as viewed in cross-section. The plurality of conduit portions is inter-dispersed throughout the plate member among the first and second series of corrugated segments. Each one of the first series of corrugated segments extends at a first angle relative to horizontal and each one of the second series of corrugated segments extend at a second angle relative to horizontal such that individual adjacent ones of the first and second series of corrugated segments form at least a generally chevron-shaped configuration as viewed in plan view.

High-frequency, low-amplitude corrugated fin for a heat exchanger coil assembly

A heat exchanger apparatus includes an inlet header, an inlet connection connected to the inlet header, an outlet header, an outlet connection connected to the outlet header and a plurality of serpentine tube bodies. The plurality of serpentine tube bodies interconnect and are in communication with the inlet header and outlet header. Each serpentine tube body has a plurality of straight tube sections and a plurality of U-shaped return bend sections. Each one of the straight tube sections and each one of the return bend sections have an elliptically-shaped cross-sectional configuration. The plurality of serpentine tube bodies are arranged in a juxtaposed manner with consecutive ones of the serpentine tube bodies contacting each other at a point defining a series of stacked common planes disposed parallel with one another.

An evaporative cooler and method of operation is provided in which the cooler includes a liquid distributor, a body having a surface for receiving liquid from the distributor, an air moving device for generating a flow of air over the surface of the body, a heat transfer working fluid conduit having a surface arranged to receive substantially all of the liquid from the body and a liquid recirculating mechanism to recirculate the liquid from the conduit surface to the body surface. In an embodiment the body occupies a plan area larger than the plan area occupied by the conduit. In an embodiment, the conduit is located outside of the flow of air. In an embodiment, the velocity of the liquid is increased after it leaves the body and before it engages the conduit.

Evaporative cooler

An increased capacity thermal storage apparatus for forming frozen storage liquid during a storage cycle is provided. The apparatus comprises a container for holding a pool of storage liquid. A coil assembly having a plurality of tubes is immersed in the pool storage liquid. The tubes are adapted to transport a refrigerant therethrough to create a tubular envelope of frozen storage liquid around each tube during the storage cycle. Each tube has a non-circular cross-section with a horizontal dimension and a vertical dimension. The vertical dimension is greater than or equal to the horizontal dimension. The tubes are oriented generally horizontally and are arranged in a plurality of spaced apart, generally vertical rows. Neighboring tubes in adjacent vertical rows are horizontally spaced apart sufficiently such that unfrozen, generally vertical passageways remain between the envelopes of frozen storage liquid. The envelope of frozen storage liquid on each tube conforms to the non-circular cross-section of the tube to increase packing efficiency of the frozen storage liquid per unit volume of available space for frozen storage liquid around the coil assembly.

Ice-on-coil thermal storage apparatus and method

A coil assembly for use in a heat exchanger having air flowing in a predetermined direction. The coil assembly comprises a plurality of parallel linear tubes, a plurality of return tubes interconnecting the linear tubes, and a plurality of fins. Each linear tube has a central portion with an elliptical cross-section and two end portions with round female sockets having circular cross-sections. Each return tube has two end portions with circular cross-sections. Each end portion of a return tube fits into a round female socket of a linear tube regardless of the orientation of the major axes of the linear tubes. The major axis of the elliptical cross-section resides at an oblique angle with respect to the direction of air flow. Each fin comprises a planar sheet of a heat-conductive material with a plurality of holes. The central portion of a linear tube extends through each hole. Each fin securely contacts each linear tube extending therethrough such that heat transfer therebetween is enhanced. The linear tubes are oriented in a plurality of rows, each row forming a plane perpendicular with respect to the direction of air flow. The rows alternate such that the major axis of the elliptical cross-section of each linear tube in first alternating rows is oriented at a clockwise-rotated position, and the major axis of the elliptical cross-section of each linear tube in second alternating rows is oriented at a counter-clockwise-rotated position.

Heat exchanger coil assembly

This invention relates to a gas and liquid contact body comprising a plurality of adjacent, vertically oriented corrugated sheets where the corrugations extend downwardly at an oblique angle to the horizontal. The bottom portion of the corrugations is cut on an oblique angle along the width of the sheet to form a beveled bottom edge having peaks and valleys along the width of the sheet. Adjacent sheets to the contact body are oriented in front-to-front and rear-to-rear orientation such that the corrugations of adjacent sheets cross at intersections of their apices, and bottom portions form a regular, ordered pattern when viewed from the bottom.

Gas and liquid contact body

The present invention relates to a coil assembly for use in an evaporative parallel flow or counterflow heat exchanger wherein the heat exchanger comprises a conduit oriented in a vertical direction through which external heat exchange fluids flow in a generally vertical direction, the coil assembly being mountable within the conduit, the coil assembly comprising inlet and outlet manifolds and a plurality of tubes connecting the manifolds, the tubes including bights and segments extending generally horizontally across the conduit and connected to at least one bight, the bights being oriented vertically and connecting segments of the tube at different levels within the conduit, the bights of adjacent tubes being in contact with each other, the segments having a generally elliptical cross sectional shape such that the segments of adjacent tubes are spaced from each other in a direction generally normal to the flow direction. The elliptical segments may be angled in the same or opposition directions as long as the spacing is maintained between the segments of adjacent tubes. The bights may have a circular or elliptical cross section.

Evaporative heat exchanger with elliptical tube coil assembly

A belt-drive assembly for use on air-moving systems in corrosive atmospheres comprising a larger non-metallic driven sheave in conjunction with a smaller metallic driver sheave wherein the metallic sheave may be located in a vented enclosure is disclosed. This arrangement prevents corrosion of the drive system and prolongs belt life.
