A system for removing heat from the engine compartment () of a heavy duty truck. A first ventilating system removes heat from the radiator. It is isolated from a second ventilating system that removes heat from the engine compartment. The first system takes heat from the radiator through a plenum by centrifugal squirrel cage blowers, and is directs it out to ambient by ductwork. The second system draws ambient air generally from back to front of the engine compartment, preferably by cowl induction, without the use of ram air from the vicinity of the radiator. The exits of the two systems are into a slip stream of the heavy duty truck, and the exit of the second ventilating system is into a slip stream of the first, to scavenge air out of the engine compartment.

An improved track shoe assembly for a continuous track vehicle. The track shoe assembly comprises a pin which is rotatable relative to a shoe of the track shoe assembly. The track shoe assembly comprises an elastomeric tube through which the pin extends, the elastomeric tube being rotatable with respect to one of the pin and the shoe and being fixed with respect to the other of the pin and the shoe.

Air management system for heavy duty truck under-hood heat control

A substitute for a lubricated metal-on-metal bushing for mounting the spring eye of a heavy over-the-road truck includes a sleeve part and a pin, the pin having bonded to it a polyurethane elastomer with a 65 D Shore hardness. Similar bushings are substituted for other metal-on-metal bushings in the suspensions and brakes of heavy over-the-road vehicles.

A method for cleaning and protecting a diesel cooling system from corrosion and the effects of the corrosive by-products wherein a filter is used to feed a dissolvable pellet comprising dissolvable cleaning agents and corrosion inhibiting agents into the cooling system. The cleaner consists of chelating agents, surfactants, and anti-foaming agents. The filter is removably inserted in the cooling system, and the cleaners and inhibitors dissolve in the coolant to clean and protectively coat the cooling system while the engine is operating. The removed impurities are captured by the filter and the filter is replaced within a few weeks with a standard filter containing inhibiting agents. The method thus does not require draining the cooling system to clean the cooling system.

A rod for the suspension system of a motor vehicle such as a bus which maintains fixed points of the chassis and frame or body in a fixed point to point alignment in the vehicle suspension system comprising a rod having openings at each end for an interference fit attachment to predetermined points or dowels, in which the openings are defined by a freely rotating bushing that is surrounded by a concentric cast polyurethane interface that is bonded to an inner concentric circular opening surface at the end of the rod. The rod is a replacement for transit bus torque rods.
