A pad for use with a gas permeable pillow, mattress, or the like having a stream of gas or mixture of gases flowing outwardly from the pillow, mattress or the like, the pad comprising a material which is substantially permeable to the gas or mixture of gases, the material being impregnated by a treating composition capable of being carried by the gas or mixture of gases to dispense the treating composition to expose a person or animal resting on the pillow, mattress, or the like to the treating composition and the pad being mounted on the pillow, mattress, or the like in the stream of gas or mixture of gases.

Pillow construction and medication dispenser

A pillow construction which enhances the transport of medication either from a medication-dispensing structure used in conjunction with the pillow, or from a separate source of medication, to a person or animal resting on the pillow. The pillow includes lengths of resilient tubing interposed between an inflated or stuffed inner layer and a gas-permeable covering layer. A gas or mixture of gases can be pumped into the tubes. The gas passes through openings in the tubes and through the permeable covering layer to expose the person or animal resting on the pillow to a stream of the gas or mixture of gases.

A system including method and apparatus for laying a separation fabric on the subgrade of a railroad bed. More particularly, the present invention provides a system for laying a separation fabric on the subgrade of an existing railway bed from which the ballast has been removed so that a continuous web of the material can be laid directly on the subgrade prior to reintroducing ballast back to the railway bed below the track and ties. When the ballast has been removed by apparatus such as an undercutter, the separation fabric is introduced without over stressing the track as by raising it high enough to accommodate a pay out roll of the fabric below the ties. The foregoing is accomplished by supporting a supply roll of fabric above the railway track generally parallel thereto, and directing the fabric web to a guide adjacent the bottom of the ties to a pay out roll or surface below the ties at an angle of approximately 45.degree. with the track so that the web can be directed around the surface so as to leave the surface parallel to the railroad track to be deposited on the subgrade.

System for laying a separation fabric on the subgrade of a railroad bed

A railroad ballast plowing machine is provided with a side plow which comprises a pair of plow devices mounted one on each side of the machine in a parallel upright position so that a rectangular main plow board of each plow device extends longitudinally of the track. A first wing is pivotally connected to a leading edge of each plow board and a rear wing is pivotally attached to a trailing edge of each plow board. Each of the first wings includes an inner and an outer flap which is independently rotatable about a substantially vertical hinge line at the leading edge of each plow board. Each of these rear wings includes an inner and outer flap which is independently rotatable about a substantially vertical hinge line at the trailing edge of each plow board. Suitable devices are provided for rotating the flaps. Ballast passing gates are provided in the main plow board adjacent their leading and trailing edges at the bottom of each plow board.

Ballast side plow

There is disclosed a mobile machine for plowing railroad ballast. Mounted centrally of the machine between the front and rear axles thereof and beneath the main chassis of the machine are a pair of plow blades. The plow blades are each mounted on an individual sub-frame which is capable of being raised and lowered so that each plow blade may be brought into engagement with the ballast and lifted therefrom for track travel. Each plow blade carries a rail embracing tunnel. A pivotal connection including a parallelogram linkage connects both tunnel and plow blade to their respective sub-frames such that the blades can be moved through a wide arc in a vertical plane, their tunnels being capable of spanning the rails in each position adopted by the plow blades.

Device for plowing ballast

A hole sensing device for a spike driving machine is disclosed. The sensing device has two projecting fingers both of which ride along the surface of a tie plate as the sensing device is swept along parallel to the rails. The fingers actuate two switches one open and the other closed when the fingers are not contacting the tie plate. When the fingers are both engaging the tie plate the switch associated with the leading finger is open and the other closed. As soon as the leading finger registers with a hole it closes its associated switch completing the circuit and allowing a hole sensing signal to be sent.

Hole sensing device for spike driver

A spike driving machine is disclosed in which a hole sensing device and spike holder are driven in toward a rail under the action of a fixed stroke piston and cylinder until a stop engages the rail. The stop has been previously adjusted to line up the hole sensing device and spike holder the correct lateral distance for engagement with the tie plate holes. Excess travel of the piston and cylinder is taken up by providing a flexible connection between an X-frame carrying the hole sensing device, the spike holder and a drive head and a Y-frame which is fixed in the lateral direction. The stroke is chosen to align the spike holder under the drive head. Thus, the arrangement can be used for rails of differing thickness simply by adjusting the stop appropriately.
