Methods of treating an eye are provided that entail partially penetrating the sclera and delivering light energy from an optical fiber within the penetration to treat the a target tissue in the eye, for example, to coagulate vasculature underlying the sclera within a planned incision area. Also provided are treatment probes for treating an eye of a patient includes an elongate body that defines a handle and an advanceable penetrating member and optical fiber housed within the elongate body. The probe is configured to advance the penetrating member so as to penetrate the sclera, only partially, and advance the treatment fiber into the penetration to deliver treatment light energy to coagulate the vasculature underlying the sclera. The probe can include one or more penetrating members and corresponding optical fibers to form one or more penetrations concurrently within the planned incision area.

Methods and probes for intrascleral laser surgery

In some embodiments, a system for providing a therapeutic treatment to a patient's eye includes a treatment beam source configured to transmit a treatment beam along a treatment beam path. The system further includes a processor coupled to the treatment beam source, the processor being configured to direct the treatment beam onto retinal tissue of the patient's eye and deliver a series of short duration pulses from the treatment beam onto the retinal tissue at a first treatment spot to treat the retinal tissue. In some embodiments, a pre-treatment evaluation method using electroretinography (ERG) data may be used to predict effects of treatment beams at different power values and to determine optimal power values.

A system and method of treating target tissue in a patient's eye, which includes generating a light beam, deflecting the light beam using a scanner to form first and second treatment patterns, delivering the first treatment pattern to the target tissue to form an incision that provides access to an eye chamber of the patient's eye, and delivering the second treatment pattern to the target tissue to form a relaxation incision along or near limbus tissue or along corneal tissue anterior to the limbus tissue of the patient's eye to reduce astigmatism thereof.

A treatment probe for treating an eye of a patient includes an elongate body that defines a handle and a treatment fiber that is housed within the elongate body. The treatment fiber is configured to deliver treatment light energy to the eye. A contact member is disposed on an end of the elongate body. The contact member has a contact surface for positioning on a surface of the eye, two side edges that are positioned on opposite sides of the contact surface, and a fluid channel. The contact surface conforms to the shape of the eye's sclera and the two side edges are shaped to direct fluid that is present on the surface of the eye toward the fluid channel when the contact member is moved laterally across the surface of the eye. The fluid aggregates within the fluid channel and contacts a distal end of the treatment fiber.

A system and method for inserting an intraocular lens in a patient's eye includes a light source for generating a light beam, a scanner for deflecting the light beam to form an enclosed treatment pattern that includes a registration feature, and a delivery system for delivering the enclosed treatment pattern to target tissue in the patient's eye to form an enclosed incision therein having the registration feature. An intraocular lens is placed within the enclosed incision, wherein the intraocular lens has a registration feature that engages with the registration feature of the enclosed incision. Alternately, the scanner can make a separate registration incision for a post that is connected to the intraocular lens via a strut member.

A method of performing laser surgery in a patient's eye includes generating a light beam, deflecting the light beam using a scanner to form an enclosed treatment pattern that is configured to form an enclosed capsulorhexis incision that includes a registration feature, and delivering the enclosed treatment pattern to target tissue in the patient's eye to form in an anterior lens capsule of the patient's eye the enclosed capsulorhexis incision that includes the registration feature. The registration feature is configured so that an edge of the target tissue formed by the enclosed capsulorhexis incision mates with an intraocular lens registration feature on an intraocular lens so as to rotationally register the intraocular lens relative to the registration feature.

Apparatus for creating incisions to improve intraocular lens placement

System and method for generating patterns P of aiming and treatment light on target eye tissue (e.g. the retina) of a patient's eye. The system includes light sources for treatment and aiming light, a scanner for generating patterns of spots of the generated light, a controller, and a graphic user interface that allows the user to select one of several possible spot patterns, adjust the spot density and/or spot size, and apply patterns with fixed or varied density. The patterns can be formed of interlaced sub-patterns and/or scanned without adjacent spots being consecutively formed to reduce localized heating. Partially or fully enclosed exclusion zones within the patterns protect sensitive target tissue from exposure to the light.

System and method for generating treatment patterns

A scanning system for treating target tissue in a patient's eye includes an ultrafast laser source configured to deliver a laser beam comprising a plurality of laser pulses; an Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) device configured to generate signals which may be used to create an image of the cornea and limbus of the eye of the patient; a scanner configured to focus and direct the laser beam in a pattern within the cornea or limbus to create incisions therein; and a controller operatively coupled to the laser source and scanner configured to control the scanner to adjust the position of the laser beam based upon the signals from the OCT device to create a cataract incision in the cornea or limbus that provides access for lens removal instrumentation to a crystalline lens of the patient's eye, and a relaxation incision in the cornea or limbus.
