An electrical connector assembly (30) includes an insulating housing (32) and assembled thereto a plurality of terminal modules (50). Each terminal module (50) has a plurality of terminals (56), each including a cantilevered beam (58) having a protuberance (59) at the leading end thereof, a conductor connecting portion (62) and an intermediate portion (60) therebetween encapsulated in an insulative web (76). The beams (58) of all the terminals (56) extend in a single line. The protuberances (59) of a first group (64) of adjacent terminals (56) in the row extend in one direction in the single line and the protuberances (59) of the beams of a second group (66) extend in an opposite direction in the single line.

Connector assembly having terminal modules

An electrical connector assembly (10) includes an insulating housing (12) and assembled thereto a plurality of terminal modules (30) and electrically conductive shields (60) therebetween. Each terminal module (30) includes an alternating pattern of first and second contacts (42,44), the intermediate portions (50) thereof being formed at selected locations therealong such that the intermediate portions of the first contacts (42) are encapsulated in the insulating web (54) proximate a first side surface (32) and the intermediate portions of the second contacts (44) are encapsulated in the web (54) proximate the second major surface (34) of the module. In the assembled connector (10), the first contacts (42) are spaced more closely to shield (60) along surface (32) and the second contacts (44) are spaced more closely to shield (60) along surface (34) thereby assuring primary coupling between each signal contact (40) and a respective ground shield (60) rather than to an adjacent signal contact (40).

Connector assembly with shielded modules and method of making same

A connector system incorporating a heat sink positioned between a pair of circuit cards terminated in a pair of joined receptacle units. A method is disclosed of connecting a daughter card to a receptacle unit, testing that subassembly, and then securing two such subassemblies together with a heat sink between the two cards to form an assembly to be mounted on a pin header mounted on a circuit board.

Conduction cooled module connector system and method of making

A high density electrical connector system for electrically interconnecting circuits on two or three printed circuit devices. More particularly, the connector system includes matable pin and receptacle connectors with the pin connector mounted on one printed circuit device and the receptacle connector having mounting ears for receiving a heat sink with printed circuit devices attached to one or two opposing surfaces.
