A multistation lock including: a housing; a plug rotatable in the housing between a lock position and first and second stations; a keyway in the plug; locking tumbler means for coupling the plug and housing and being biased into a locking position and being movable to a shear position by a proper key in the keyway; and a code track in the housing, the track having a different code segment for each station for engaging a code section of a key shoulder, including a first code segment for the first station for enabling a first key having a code section receivable by the first code segment to move between the lock position and the first station, and a second code segment for the second station for enabling a second key having a code section receivable by the second code segment to move between the lock position and the second station.

Multistation lock

A lock having a key-controlled removable and installable plug including: a plug including a set of combinating tumblers and a control tumbler including a retaining end and a second end; in a first state the retaining end being extended and the second end being retracted relative to the plug and in a second state the retaining end being retracted and the second end being extended relative to the plug; means for biasing the control tumbler to one of the states, the control tumbler including means for engaging with a key to drive the control tumbler to the other state; and a shell for rotatably receiving the plug and having a peripheral groove for receiving the retaining end of the control tumbler in the first state and preventing longitudinal withdrawal of, while permitting rotation of, the plug in the shell; and a longitudinal groove for accommodating extension of the second end in the second state and enabling withdrawal and installation of the plug when the second end is aligned with the longitudinal groove.

Lock with key-controlled removable and installable plug and key for same

Disclosed is a cylinder lock with an annular housing defining a cavity that retains a lock core formed by a cylindrical plug within an annular shell having an internal longitudinally directed shell spline. The plug is retained within the annular shell in a locked position and is rotatable therein in one direction to an open position and in the opposite direction to a release position. A plurality of locking tumblers are retained by the plug and engage the shell spline to prevent rotation of the plug from its locked position unless the locking tumblers are withdrawn from the shell spline by a properly bitted key inserted into a keyway defined by the plug. Coupled to the plug is an actuator member that moves a locking member between latched and unlatched positions in response to rotation of the plug. Also retained by the plug and engaging the shell spline with the plug in its locked position is a release tumbler shaped and arranged to permit rotation of the plug to its open position but to prevent rotation to its release position. The release tumbler also can be withdrawn from the shell spline by a properly bitted key so as to allow rotation of the plug to its release position. Relative axial movement between the housing and the core is prevented by a retainer with the plug in either its locked or open position but such movement is permitted with the plug in its release position. An operator's key is bitted to withdraw the locking tumblers and thereby permit rotation of the plug to its open position but will not withdraw the release tumbler so as to facilitate movement of the plug to its release position. That latter action is accomplished only with a master key bitted to withdraw both the locking and release tumblers so as to permit rotation of the plug to its release position wherein the retainer allows axial removal of the locking core from the housing cavity.

Cylinder lock with key removable core

A cylinder lock with a hollow cylindrical shell that defines a plurality of shell tumblerways and is longitudinally movable in a shell cavity defined by a housing. Received by the hollow shell is a plug that defines a keyway for receiving a proper key and a plurality of plug tumblerways aligned with the shell tumblerways. The plug is rotatable within the shell but is longitudinally restrained therein. A plurality of locking tumblers are accommodated by the aligned shell and plug tumblerways and are movable from biased locked positions into open positions by a proper key in the keyway. Also responsive to a proper key is a control tumbler that can be moved out of a biased, latched position into a release position. The control tumbler obstructs longitudinal withdrawal of the shell from the shell cavity when in its latched position and permits withdrawal when in its release position.

Cylinder lock with key responsive removable core

A security apparatus including a cylinder lock with an actuator plug rotatably mounted within a hollow cylindrical housing. Retained by the actuator plug are a plurality of locking wafers that are spring biased into a locking spline formed in the inner surface of the housing so as to retain the plug in a locked station. Also retained by the plug is a directional wafer, spring biased in a primary position wherein it permits both clockwise and counterclockwise rotation of the plug from the locked station and movable into either intermediate or auxiliary positions wherein it allows clockwise rotation but prevents counterclockwise rotation of the plug. A control key is bitted so as to pull the locking wafers into shear positions and to draw the directional wafer into its intermediate position permitting rotation of the plug to a second station. Also defined by the housing is a tumbler stop that establishes a third operational station located between the locked station and the second station. The tumbler stop is engaged by the directional wafer when in its auxiliary position so as to prevent clockwise rotation of the actuator plug beyond the third station but it is not engaged with the directional wafer in either of its primary or intermediate positions which allow continued clockwise rotation of the plug to the second station. Another control key bitted so as to pull the locking wafers to shear positions and draw the directional wafer into its auxiliary position permits clockwise rotation of the plug to the third station only where the directional wafer contacts the tumbler stop.

Key controlled security apparatus

Disclosed is a lock comprising a housing and a shell movable therein between a locked position and an unlocked position. Locking apparatus is responsive to a key and releasably restrains the shell in the locked position. Restraining apparatus is responsive to the same key and selectively prevents the removal of the shell from the housing.

Plunger lock

Disclosed is a key making machine with a sample vise for receiving and retaining a sample key to be duplicated and a blank vise for receiving and retaining a key blank. When the sample key is positioned properly a path of electrical conduction is provided through it. A similar conductive path is established through the key blank when it is properly positioned. A series circuit through the key and blank prevents operation of the machine if the sample key or key blank is not properly positioned. During each cycle of operation, a support table completes one cycle of reciprocating linear motion. Toggles responsive to the motion of the table close the vises shortly after the table begins to move. Positioning towers near the vises support slidably mounted rigid fingers that project toward the vises to aid in the positioning of the key and the blank. Following closure of the vises, the towers respond to the motion of the table and move to a standby position to facilitate the cutting operation. Tower motion is linear and transverse to both table motion and finger projection. A cutter motor is mounted on the table with its shaft parallel to the direction of table motion. A coupling system couples the cutter motor to a cutter wheel and allows the axle of the wheel to move in a circular path about a drive shaft that is parallel to the cutter motor shaft. Motion of the cutter wheel with respect to the cutter motor is in response to a stylus that scans the bitted pattern of the sample key as the table reciprocates.

Automatic key duplicating apparatus

A security apparatus including a cylinder lock with an actuator plug rotatably mounted within a hollow cylindrical housing. Retained by the actuator plug are a plurality of locking wafers that are spring biased into a locking spline formed in the inner surface of the housing so as to retain the plug in a locked station. Also retained by the plug is a first directional wafer, spring biased into a quiescent position wherein it allows counterclockwise rotation of the plug from a locked station but prevents clockwise rotation thereof and movable into an active position wherein it allows either clockwise or counterclockwise rotation of the plug. A second directional wafer is spring biased in a primary position wherein it permits both clockwise and counterclockwise rotation of the plug from the locked station and movable into an intermediate position wherein it allows clockwise rotation but prevents counterclockwise rotation of the plug. A first control key is bitted so as to pull the locking wafers to shear positions out of the locking spline while leaving the first and second directional wafers in their quiescent and primary positions, respectively. A second control key is bitted so as to pull the locking wafers into shear positions and draw the first and second directional wafers into their active and intermediate positions, respectively. Finally, a master key is bitted so as to draw the locking wafers into shear positions, pull the first directional wafer into its active position and leave the second directional wafer in its primary position.
