A process for producing lithium titanate which includes the steps of synthesizing a lithium titanate hydrate intermediate via aqueous chemical processing, and thermally treating the lithium titanate hydrate intermediate to produce the lithium titanate. The lithium titanate hydrate is preferably (LiH)TiO&#x3c;&#x3c;2HO. The lithium titanate is preferably LiTiO(LTO). Synthesizing the lithium titanate hydrate intermediate may include mixing a titanium-containing compound with a lithium-containing compound in a solvent to produce a lithium-titanium precursor mixture. Preferably the titanium-containing compound includes titanium tetrachloride TiCl. Also, a lithium titanate obtained according to the process and a lithium battery including the lithium titanate.

Layered and spinel lithium titanates and processes for preparing the same

A method and apparatus for precipitating manganese from acidic sulfate solutions, and more specifically from zinc leach solutions, without removing zinc. A zinc- and manganese-containing solution is treated with an SO &mdash;O gas mixture at the appropriate pH and temperature, thereby causing manganese to precipitate as a trivalent and/or tetravalent manganese hydroxides and/or oxides that report to the leach residue or are removed separately from solution by solid/liquid separation. These trivalent and/or tetravalent manganese compounds may be used as oxidants in other parts of the leach circuit.

Method for removing manganese from acidic sulfate solutions

For the removal of heavy metal contaminants from industrial waste water, a method is proposed for preparing a dense precipitate having superior handling and disposal properties. The method comprises incremental adjustment of the pH to maintain a low saturation ratio and recycling of slurry to provide seed crystals for secondary nucleation.

Multiple stage precipitation of heavy metals from acidic aqueous solution

Rhodium is recovered from an aqueous precious metal solution by first contacting the solution with stannous chloride at a Sn:Rh molar ratio of at least 2:1 to produce activated Rh solution; solvent extracting rhodium from the activated solution with an organic extractant to produce an organic phase containing Rh; the Rh can be recovered from the organic phases by burning-off the organic, precipitating Rh by reduction or stripping with a stripping agent and recovering Rh from an Rh-loaded stripping agent; the method produces high yields of Rh in short periods as compared with time consuming prior procedures.
