A band pass filter circuit for transmitting electromagnetic signals within a desired frequency band includes a transmission line extending between input and output terminals, a high pass filter connected to the transmission line for blocking the transmission of signals falling below the operational frequency band, and a low pass filter connected to the transmission line for blocking the transmission of signals falling above the operational frequency band. Additionally, a primary suppressor connects the transmission line to ground and suppresses unwanted transients on the transmission line. A set of supplemental suppressors connects the transmission line to ground and suppresses any residual transient energy on the transmission line after treatment by the primary suppressor. Each supplemental suppressor is paired in parallel with a higher-valued capacitor from the low pass filter in order to minimize the effect of its parasitic capacitance on the band pass characteristics of the circuit.

Band pass filter circuit with over-voltage protection

An electrical power conditioning device for transmitting energy between a source and a load includes an inner conductor that extends within a grounded outer conductor. A low-pass filter extends between the inner and outer conductors and is designed to attenuate high frequency energy transmitted by the inner conductor. The low-pass filter includes at least one capacitor array which comprises multiple capacitor sectors mounted on a common a printed circuit board in a radial arrangement, each sector including a T-shaped configuration of ceramic capacitors to provide operational redundancy. Additionally, a voltage suppressor extends between the inner and outer conductor and suppresses transient voltages transmitted by the inner conductor. The suppressor includes a pair of printed circuit boards between which a plurality of diodes extend in a circular array around the inner conductor, the printed circuit boards electrically connecting the diodes in series to allow for higher overall pulse current capabilities.

Electrical power conditioning device

A protective device for transmitting electromagnetic signals includes an inner conductor that extends coaxially within an outer conductor. To compensate for dimensional tolerances without compromising performance, inner conductor is constructed to include a center pin with a conical end, a plunger pin slidably disposed within an axial bore in the center pin, the plunger pin including a conical end located outside the center pin, and a resilient, expandable, conductive band coaxially mounted onto the conical ends of the center and plunger pins. A gas discharge tube is conductively coupled between the inner and outer conductors to discharge transient voltages transmitted along the inner conductor. To minimize disturbance to the transmission line, the width of the gas discharge tube in the region of contact with the inner conductor is preferably equal to the diameter of the inner conductor. Additionally, the gas discharge tube is preferably greater in length than in width.

Coaxial protective device

An RF transmission line device with high performance, wide band characteristics includes an inner conductor for transmitting communication signals of a desired frequency band and a grounded outer conductor electrically insulated from the inner conductor by at least one dielectric material. A tap conductor is connected to the inner conductor and serves as an auxiliary path through which signals outside the desired frequency band can be externally injected into and/or retrieved from the through RF path, the tap conductor extending longitudinally through a tap housing conductively coupled to the outer conductor. As a feature of the invention, a modular attachment is removably coupled to the tap housing and includes a plurality of voltage suppression components that are arranged in the conductive path between the tap conductor and the tap housing, the voltage suppression components discharging transient voltages diverted from the inner conductor by the tap conductor.

Device for transmitting electromagnetic signals

A feedthrough capacitor includes an inner electrode that extends coaxially within a grounded outer electrode. A non-conductive, epoxy-based potting material insulates and adhesively joins opposing roughened portions of the inner and outer electrodes. A capacitor assembly extends between the inner and outer electrode and serves to bypass relatively high frequency signals carried by the inner electrode to the grounded outer electrode. The capacitor assembly includes a plurality of monolithic multilayer ceramic capacitors, each capacitor having first and second terminals that are respectively surface mounted onto inner and outer concentric conductive rings. A plurality of deflectable tines project radially inward from the inner ring and resiliently circumferentially contact the exterior of the inner electrode. Similarly, a plurality of deflectable tines project radially outward from the outer ring and resiliently circumferentially contact the interior of the outer electrode.

Feedthrough capacitor

A device for protecting a radio frequency transmission line from transient voltages includes an inner conductor for transmitting communication signals of a desired frequency band and a grounded, coaxial outer conductor electrically insulated from the inner conductor by a pair of annular insulators. As one feature of the invention, a tap conductor for discharging transient voltages carried by the inner conductor that fall outside the desired frequency band is coupled at one end to the inner conductor through a press-fit connection. As another feature of the invention, a pair of high-quality contacts are mounted onto opposite ends of the outer conductor and serve, together with the inner conductor, as the only electrical contact surfaces for the protective device that transmit the desired communication signals. As another feature of the invention, each insulator has a constant outer diameter along the entirety of its length and a variable inner diameter.

Protective device

A device for protecting a radio frequency transmission line from transient voltages includes an inner conductor for transmitting electromagnetic signals of a desired frequency band and a grounded, coaxial outer conductor electrically insulated from the inner conductor. A conductive bus bar extends longitudinally within the outer conductor and is conductively connected thereto. A plurality of gas discharge tubes are directly mounted on the inner conductor along at least a portion of its length in spaced apart intervals. In addition, each of the plurality of gas discharge tubes is conductively connected to a flattened surface on the bus bar through a metal spring washer. In use, the plurality of gas discharge tubes operate in parallel with one another to discharge transient voltages carried by the inner conductor that exceed a predefined threshold.

Protective device for a radio frequency transmission line

A protective device for transmitting electromagnetic signals of a desired frequency band from a source to a load comprises an outer conductor, an inner conductor extending coaxially within the outer conductor and a quarter wavelength shunt conductor. A radio frequency impedance control (RFIC) tube is used to maintain the proper transmission line impedance for the device. The shunt conductor is connected, at one end, to the inner conductor and extends along a multi-curved path through an opening in the RFIC tube and wraps around the RFIC tube in at least one plane. The other end of the stub is connected to the outer conductor either directly or indirectly by means of distributed capacitance through a dielectric insulator. A plurality of gas discharge tubes are coupled to the shunt conductor to shunt undesired voltages. In use, the inner conductor serves as the transmission line, the outer conductor serves as the return path and the quarter wavelength shunt conductor serves as an inductor for filtering out electromagnetic energy which falls outside the desired frequency band.

A plurality of gas discharge tubes are connected at one end to the shunt conductor and at the other end to the outer conductor. In use, the inner conductor serves as the transmission line, the outer conductor serves as the return path and the quarter wavelength shunt conductor serves as an inductor for filtering out electromagnetic energy which falls outside the desired frequency band, the plurality of gas discharge tubes operating electrically in parallel with one another to discharge shunted voltages.

A protective device for transmitting electromagnetic signals of a desired frequency band from a source to a load comprises an outer conductor, an inner conductor extending coaxially within the outer conductor and a quarter wavelength shunt conductor. A radio frequency impedance control (RFIC) tube is used to maintain the proper transmission line impedance for the device. The shunt conductor is connected, at one end, to the inner conductor and extends along a multi-curved path through an opening in the RFIC tube and wraps around the RFIC tube in at least one plane. An electrical connector includes an inner conductor, an annular insulator which surrounds the inner conductor and an outer conductor which surrounds the annular insulator. The electrical connector is provided with both a threaded coupling mechanism and a snap-fastening coupling mechanism. In one embodiment, the threaded coupling mechanism is in the form of an outwardly projecting spiral threading which protrudes out from the mating end of the outer conductor. In the same embodiment, the snap-fastening coupling mechanism is in the form of an annular groove which is formed in the central body of the outer conductor, the annular groove being sized and shaped to receive a resilient, C-shaped snap ring from a mating electrical connector. In this manner, it is to be understood that the electrical connector is capable of being mechanically and electrically coupled to various types of mating electrical connectors using either threaded coupling means or snap-fastening coupling means.

A protective device for an RF cable comprises in one embodiment an outer conductor having a main body section, a first connector and a second connector. The main body section has a cylindrically shaped inner sidewall and includes a first end and a second end. The first connector extends out from the first end of the main body section. The second connector extends out from the second end of the main body section. An inner conductor is axially disposed within the outer conductor and extends through the main body section into the first and second connector interface. Insulators are provided for mechanically supporting and electrically insulating the inner conductor from the outer conductor. A gas discharge tube (GDT) is disposed inside the main body section between the cylindrically shaped inner sidewall and the inner conductor. A spring of electrically conductive material is disposed inside the main body section between the GDT and the main body section in contact with the cylindrically shaped sidewall and the GDT and is under compression.

An apparatus for controlling a plurality of electrical devices, each of the electrical devices including circuitry for switching the electrical device to a standby mode or an operational mode. A main control unit and a secondary control unit is provided in each of the electrical devices. When a main control unit of one electrical device is connected to a secondary control unit of a second electrical device, control of the operational state of the second electrical device is transferred to the remotely located first electrical device. When the two electrical devices are disconnected, local control of the second electrical device is maintained.

Apparatus for transferring control of a plurality of electrical devices

A capacitor filter circuit including an input electrode, an output electrode, a ground electrode, a first input capacitor connected between the input electrode and the ground electrode and a second input capacitor connected in parallel with the first input capacitor between the input electrode and the ground electrode. Also included in the circuit is a first output capacitor connected between the output electrode and the ground electrode, a second output capacitor connected in parallel with the first output capacitor between the output electrode and the ground electrode and an inductive means coupled between the input electrode and the output electrode.
