Foamable compositions having low concentrations of select foaming agents provide uniform distribution of paper treating agents onto moving paper, including high speed applications, and treated paper having unimpaired properties.

Foam composition used in paper treatment

A continuous process for the application of a textile treating composition in the form of a froth or foam to a substrate such as textiles. The process enables the application in a uniform manner of any foamable functional composition that can be used in the treatment of a textile fabric to improve its properties. In the process of foamed functional treating composition is continuously conveyed to the applicator nozzle, the substrate is continuously passed across and in contact with the applicator nozzle so as to simultaneously contact said substrate with the foamed composition and the applicator nozzle at a rate such that a predetermined controlled amount of the foamed functional treating composition is uniformly applied to the surface of the substrate and the foam immediately breaks on contact with the substrate and is readily absorbed. The process of this invention generally leaves the textile material essentially dry to the touch and thus requires less energy consumption in drying and further treatment of the textile.

Copolymers of acrylic acid and nonionic surfactant acrylates have been found to be useful thickening agents for both aqueous solutions and water/liquid hydrocarbon emulsions.

The reaction produces of (A) polyoxytetramethylene diols or polycaprolactone polyols, (B) diisocyanates and (C) di- or tri-methylol carboxylic acids are capped with (D) certain defined acrylyl compounds to produce terminally unsaturated oligomers that readily cure by thermal or radiation means to soft, tack-free products. The oligomers can be used as coatings; binders and adhesives.

Foams containing a functional textile treating compound for application to a substrate such as a fabric or textile. The use of foams enables the application in uniform manner of many functional compositions that can be used in the treatment of a textile fabric to improve its properties. The foam compositions of this invention generally leave the textile material essentially dry to the touch and thus require less energy consumption in drying and further treatment of the textile. The foams have a foam density of 0.005 to 0.3 gram per cc, and average bubble size of from 0.05 to 0.5 millimeters in diameter and a foam half-life of from one to sixty minutes.
