Exemplary systems and methods for automatically managing implantable medical device (IMD) related alerts are described. One method receives implantable medical device-related alerts. The method automatically manages the implantable medical device alerts by parsing the alerts through a set of predefined parameters.

An exemplary device includes a processor, one or more communication interfaces, memory and one or more modules stored in the memory that comprise processor executable instructions to receive data from an implantable device via at least one of the one or more communication interfaces, to interrogate the data for one or more particular types of data, to process one or more particular types of data and to transmit information via at least one of the one or more communication interfaces. Various other exemplary devices, methods, systems, etc., are also disclosed.

Exemplary external medical devices are configurable to communicate with an implantable medical device (IMD). One medical device includes multiple IMD telemetry ports operable to connect IMD telemetry mechanisms to the medical device. The medical device also includes a control unit configured to control the IMD telemetry mechanisms.

External medical device configurations for communicating with implantable medical devices

A surface electrocardiogram (EKG) is emulated using signals detected by the internal leads of an implanted device. In one example, the emulation is performed using a technique that concatenates portions of signals sensed using different electrodes. In another example, the emulation is performed using a technique that selectively amplifies or attenuates portions of a single cardiac signal sensed using a single pair of electrodes. The surface EKG emulation may be performed by the implanted device itself or by an external device, such as a programmer, based on cardiac signals transmitted thereto. The external device then displays the emulated surface EKG along with an intracardiac electrogram (IEGM) and set of event markers. Alternatively, the external device displays an entire set of emulated EKGs that had been generated based on the same patient input data but using different emulation techniques. The emulated EKGs are displayed along with an actual surface EKG for the patient so that a physician may easily identify the optimal emulation technique for that patient.

Cardiac electrical activity includes intrinsic signals as well as paced or stimulated signals. Waveforms of cardiac electrical activity may be detected by a variety of systems, including surface ECG systems and various implantable cardiac devices including implantable cardiac stimulation devices. Intrinsic cardiac signals and various cardiac conditions influence these waveforms in ways that can be identified using various detection criteria, and from which cardiac markers may be generated. Musical notations are linked to these cardiac markers as appropriate, and are sounded as a function of time to generate musical sound which is indicative of the patient's cardiac function.
