Disclosed is a process for the selective epoxidation of olefins, including diolefins, having more than 2 carbon atoms by the catalytic oxidation of such an olefin in the presence of a supported, fluorine-promoted, silver catalyst.

A photographic element is disclosed comprising a film support, at least one light-sensitive layer, a highly loaded layer which contains more than 30 volume percent of non-film forming particulate material, and upper and lower aqueous coated adjacent layers which are next to the highly loaded layer, the upper adjacent layer being further from the support and the lower adjacent layer being closer to the support relative to the highly loaded layer, each adjacent layer having a film forming binder content of greater than 70 volume percent, and the lower adjacent layer being at least 1.0 micron thick. In accordance with a preferred embodiment of the invention, an imaging element having excellent adhesion characteristics is obtained in combination with excellent magnetic recording characteristics and photographic transparency where the non-film forming particulate material in the highly loaded layer comprises conductive particles, the layer adjacent to the highly loaded layer which is closer to the support comprises a hydrophilic curl control layer, and the layer adjacent to the highly loaded layer which is further from the support or a layer coated thereover comprises an aqueous coated transparent magnetic recording layer, by virtue of the physical flatness, low granularity, and optical density of the element. Also disclosed is a process for simultaneously applying a plurality of coating compositions comprising an aqueous magnetic recording layer coating composition, an antistatic layer aqueous coating composition, and a curl control layer aqueous coating composition, along with other optional conventional gelatin containing aqueous coated layers, onto a support. The placing of the highly filled antistatic layer between two aqueous coated adjacent layers, which in a preferred embodiment of the invention comprise a magnetic recording layer and a curl control layer or two curl control layers, results in excellent adhesion of the coated layers to the support compared to where the antistatic layer is closest to the support. The mechanical properties of a photographic element containing such a highly filled layer is substantially strengthened when the highly filled layer is sandwiched between the two other aqueous coated layers.

Photographic elements comprising highly loaded particulate material

The present invention is an imaging element which includes a support and at least one image forming layer superposed on the support. A transparent magnetic layer is superposed on the support and includes magnetic particles, fluorinated polymeric particles having a size of from 0.01 to 1.5 .mu.m, and a water dispersible binder, the transparent magnetic layer having a weight ratio of magnetic particles to aqueous dispersible binder of from 0.1:100 to 30:100.

An ink jet printing ink composition is disclosed for use with an ink jet printing apparatus comprising a printhead, an ink delivery system adapted to provide the ink to the printhead, and a sensor associated with the ink delivery system adapted to produce a signal which is characteristic of the concentration of a label material in a printing ink, where said signal is used to indicate the appropriateness of using a particular printing ink. The ink composition comprises a carrier, a colorant, and a predetermined concentration of a distinct label material, the weight ratio of the label material to the colorant being less than 1. The label material may be easily detected by a sensor associated with the ink delivery system.

A radiation-sensitive silver halide film for reproducing digitally stored medical diagnostic images through a series of laterally offset exposures by a controlled radiation source followed by processing in 90 seconds or less, including development, fixing and drying. The film exhibits an average contrast in the range of from 1.5 to 2.0, measured over a density above fog of from 0.25 to 2.0. An emulsion layer is provided in which silver bromochloride grains (a) comprised of at least 10 mole percent bromide, based on silver, (b) having a mean equivalent circular diameter of less than 0.40 .mu.m, (c) exhibiting an average aspect ratio of less than 1.3, and (d) coated at a silver coverage of less than 40 mg/dm.sup.2. Adsorbed to the surfaces of the silver bromochloride grains at least one spectral sensitizing dye having an absorption half peak bandwidth in the spectral region of exposure by the controlled exposure source. The film contains an infrared opacifying dye that is capable of reducing specular transmission through the film before, during and after processing to less than 50 percent, measured at a wavelength within the spectral region of from 850 to 1100 nm. The film contains a magnetic recording layer which provides a positive b* value influence that is more than offset by the negative b* value influence of the silver bromochloride emulsion, allowing magnetic recording layer integration into the film while achieving favorable image tone and minimum density characteristics.

The coating composition may be prepared by milling an aqueous slurry of magnetic particles and a surface active dispersant having an HLB number of at least 8 until there are substantially no agglomerates of magnetic particles present, and then combining the milled dispersion with the gelatin and polyelectrolyte.
