Utilities for use in actively detecting the occurrence of bad blocks in NAND flash storage devices and diagnosing the devices as faulty at some point before complete failure of the devices (e.g., before a number of allowable bad blocks has been reached) to allow a corresponding service processor to continue to write to available blocks for a period of time until a replacement NAND flash device can be identified. The utilities may also be utilized to predict the future occurrence of bad blocks in NAND flash devices, such as during the 'burn-in' process of the devices (e.g., which tests the quality of the NAND flash device before being placed into service to weed out devices with defects).

The margin distribution is achieved by augmenting the constellation signal to noise ratio to enhance computational efficiency and allow redetermination of bit allocation tables during transmission as necessary. A system and method for parallel computation of Discrete Sine and Cosine Transforms. The computing system includes a plurality of interconnected processors and corresponding local memories. An input signal x is received, partitioned into P local vectors x, and distributed to the local memories. The preprocessors may calculate a set of coefficients for use in computing the transform. The processors perform a preprocess in parallel on the input signal x to generate an intermediate vector y. The processors then perform a Fast Fourier Transform in parallel on the intermediate vector y, generating a second intermediate vector a. Finally, the processors perform a post-process on the second intermediate vector a, generating a result vector v, the Discrete Transform of signal x. In one embodiment, the method generates the Discrete Sine Transform of the input signal x. In another embodiment, the method generates the Discrete Cosine Transform of the input signal x.
