Broadly this invention provides inbred corn line ZS01231. The methods for producing a corn plant by crossing the inbred line ZS01231 are encompassed by the invention. Additionally, the invention relates to the various parts of inbred ZS01231 including culturable cells. This invention relates to hybrid corn seeds and plants produced by crossing the inbred line ZS01231 with at least one other corn line.

This invention relates to maize plants and a method of producing same, which are resistant to Gray Leaf Spot which will hereinafter simply be referred to as GLS. More particularly this invention relates to the introgression in maize of identifiable genetic material capable of causing the plant to be resistant to GLS. This invention relates to a maize plant and a method of producing the same, which is tolerant to high pH soil. More particularly, this invention relates to the introgression in maize of identified genetic material capable of causing the plant to be tolerant to high pH soil. Additionally, the present invention relates to the introgression, with precision and accuracy, of such desired genetic material from one or more parent plants into progeny plants. The present invention also covers the maize plants containing the high pH tolerance material.

High pH tolerant corn and the production thereof

Sunflower seed color is determined by pigmentation of three layers of the sunflower pericarp (hull), epidermis, hypodermis, and phytomelanin layer. The present invention identifies RFLP markers linked to factor(s) affecting seed hypodermis pigmentation and identifies the relation between this trait and oil percentage in the sunflower seed. Seeds with white hypodermis had lower oil percentage than those with unpigmented hypodermis. The Hyp factor was found located in the same map interval region as one QTL with major effects on seed oil percentage. The linkage between the top factor and the QTL with the seed oil can be employed in breeding sunflowers to improve seed oil percentage.
