A system and method for controlling production fluid flow between an annular chamber extending between a casing disposed in a downhole bore and production tubing disposed in the casing. An electrically down hole control valve which includes a motor, a position sensor, a gearbox and a linear actuator coupled to the gearbox to convert rotational movement to an axial movement. The control valve further includes a connecting rod coupled to the linear actuator and a valve assembly. The valve assembly includes a gate that can translate in an axial direction to a plurality of continuously variable positions between a fully closed position and a fully open position. A plurality of such control valves can be disposed in respective openings formed in the production tubing, and a passage is formed in each valve for connecting the annular chamber and the production tubing interior. The valves are selectively closed and selectively opened to permit fluid flow to and from the chamber, through the passage, and to and from the interior of the production tubing. Thus, the volume of fluid passing to and from the chamber, through the valve members, and to and from the interior of the production tubing is controlled.

Apparatus and methods for a gas lift valve

A cable is used for running a load between surface and downhole in a well. The cable includes one or more wires composed of a non-metallic material. Each of the one or more wires bears the load from the surface and can electrically conduct between the surface and downhole. An insulating material is disposed about the one or more wires and insulates the electrical conduction. The non-metallic material includes a carbon nanotube wire. A jacket can be disposed about the insulating material, and the jacket can be composed a non-metallic material also, such as carbon nanotube wire. Markers disposed at predefined distances along the length of the cable are used to determine the deployed length of the cable.

A cable () is used for running a load between surface and downhole in a well. The cable includes one or more wires () composed of a non-metallic material. Each of the one or more wires () bears the load from the surface and electrically conducts between the surface and downhole. An insulating material () is disposed about the one or more wires () and insulates the electrical conduction. The non-metallic material includes a carbon nano-tube wire. A jacket () can be disposed about the insulating material (), and the jacket () can be composed of a non-metallic material also, such as carbon nano-tube wire.

Embodiments of the present invention generally relate to methods and apparatus for centrifugal separation. In one embodiment, a separator includes an outer tubular having ends sealed from the environment and an inner tubular. The inner tubular is disposed within the outer tubular, has ends in fluid communication with a bore of the outer tubular, and is attached to the outer tubular. The separator further includes an inlet. The inlet is disposed through a wall of the outer tubular, in fluid communication with a bore of the inner tubular, and tangentially attached to the inner tubular so that fluid flow from the inlet to the inner tubular is centrifugally accelerated. The separator further includes a gas outlet in fluid communication with the outer tubular bore; and a liquid outlet in fluid communication with the outer tubular bore.

Method and apparatus for centrifugal separation

A narrow band infrared water fraction meter detects a full water cut range of a liquid hydrocarbon flow stream and a flow stream of a gas well. The water fraction meter includes a light source probe for irradiating the flow stream with a narrow band of infrared light and a light detector probe for sensing attenuation of infrared light passed through the flow stream. For a narrow band of infrared light of a predetermined wavelength, there is a substantial difference in the absorption of infrared radiation between the gas and water content of a flow stream of a gas well. At such a wavelength, the narrow band of infrared light is substantially transmitted through gas content and liquid hydrocarbon content of the flow stream and substantially absorbed by water content of the flow stream. The water fraction meter thus differentiates water by treating liquid hydrocarbon like gas. Injection of corrosion/hydrate inhibiting chemicals into the flow stream can be controlled based on the attenuation of infrared light detected by the water fraction meter. In the case of a liquid hydrocarbon flow stream, the infrared light is substantially transmitted through its liquid hydrocarbon phase and substantially absorbed by its water phase. The water fraction meter also measures a water fraction of a multi-phase flow stream. The emitted infrared light is substantially transmitted through a first set of phases of the flow stream and substantially absorbed by a second set of phases of the flow stream.
