The present disclosure relates to compositions including copolymers, and methods for making compositions. In an embodiment, a composition includes the product of a copolymer comprising at least 50 mol % propylene and at least 1 wt % of at least one of ethylene or a Cto Cα-olefin, based on the total weight of the copolymer; and an organic peroxide. The copolymer has Mw/Mnof from 1 to 5. In an embodiment, a process to form a composition includes introducing a copolymer with an organic peroxide, the copolymer comprising at least 50 mol % propylene and at least 1 wt % of at least one of ethylene or a Cto Cα-olefin, based on the total weight of the copolymer; and obtaining a composition comprising a product of the copolymer and the organic peroxide. The copolymer has Mw/Mnof from 1 to 5.

Strain hardened polypropylene copolymer compositions

Provided herein are methods of polymerizing α-olefin monomer with a catalyst and hydrogen in a slurry to produce low molecular weight polyolefins. Hydrogen is vented from the low molecular weight polyolefins and then the low molecular weight polyolefins are further polymerized in a gas phase to produce a polyolefin having a molecular weight distribution of between 4.0 and 30 and a flexural modulus between 1500 mPa and 2500 mPa.

Processes for producing polyolefins and impact copolymers with broad molecular weight distribution and high stiffness

The present disclosure provides polypropylene compositions that have a high gloss and minimum or no haze while also having a high melt strength (e.g., high temperature resistance) and a relative high stiffness. Polypropylene compositions contain one or more base polypropylenes (e.g., trimmed polypropylenes (tPPs)) and one or more clarifying agents. The base or trimmed polypropylene contains at least 50 mol % of propylene and has a molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn) in a range from 7 to 22, a z-average molecular weight of less than 2,500,000 g/mol, a branching index (g') of at least 0.95, and a melt strength of less than 20 cN determined using an extensional rheometer at 190° C. The base or trimmed polypropylene can be produced from one or more high melt strength polypropylenes (HMS PPs).

Polypropylene for films

Disclosed are compositions comprising at least one polyolefin, a hindered phenol, and a phenyl phosphite; wherein the overall concentration of the hindered phenol and phenyl phosphite is within a range from 10 ppm to 5000 ppm in the polyolefin, and wherein the amount of the hindered phenol is less than the phenyl phosphite. Also disclosed herein are compositions comprising at least one polypropylene, a neutralizer, a hindered phenol, and a phenyl phosphite; wherein the overall concentration of the hindered phenol and phenyl phosphite is within a range from 1000 ppm to 5000 ppm in the polyolefin, and wherein the amount of the hindered phenol is from 200 to 2000 ppm less than the phenyl phosphite.

Low odor and volatiles polyolefin compositions and methods of production

A polypropylene composition suitable for foaming having improved processability but maintained strain hardening and the process to produce the polypropylene composition comprising combining a linear polypropylene having a melt strength within a range from 10 to 40 cN (190&#xb0; C.) with an organic peroxide to obtain a branched polypropylene having a melt strength within a range from 20 to 80 cN (190&#xb0; C.), wherein the melt strength of the branched polypropylene is greater than the melt strength of the linear polypropylene; and combining the branched polypropylene having a melt flow rate within a range of 0.1 to 20 g/10 min and an Mw/Mn of at least 5 with within a range from 5 to 40 wt % of a low molecular weight polyolefin having a melt flow rate of at least 50 g/10 min and an Mw/Mn of less than 5 to obtain the polypropylene composition.

High melt strength polypropylenes with improved processability

A polypropylene comprising within a range from 0.1 wt % to 4 wt % ethylene and/or C4 to C12 &#x3b1;-olefin derived units, one or more clarifiers, or both; wherein the polypropylene has a flexural modulus of at least 200 kpsi (0.05 in/min ASTM D790(A)) and an Mz/Mw of at least 4. The polypropylenes may be made by combining propylene and a comonomer with a Ziegler-Natta catalyst and at least two external electron donors, wherein the concentration of the electron donors is within a range from 1 to 100 ppm. The concentration of electron donors may be decreased to control the haze level of the polypropylene, and/or the level of comonomer derived units may be controlled to reduce the haze level of the polypropylene.

High melt strength polypropylene with high stiffness and clarity

A composition comprising the reaction product of a polypropylene comprising at least 50 mol % propylene, and having a molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn) greater than 6, a branching index (g') of at least 0.97, and a melt strength greater than 10 cN determined using an extensional rheometer at 190&#xb0; C.; and within the range from 0.01 to 3 wt % of at least one organic peroxide, by weight of the polypropylene and organic peroxide. Such hyperbranched polypropylenes are useful in films, foamed articles, and thermoformed articles.

Polypropylenes having balanced strain hardening, melt strength, and shear thinning

Provided is a reactor grade polypropylene suitable for injection molding applications comprising within a range from 0 wt % to 4 wt % ethylene and/or C4 to C12 &#x3b1;-olefin derived units, the polypropylene produced from a single catalyst and single stage polymerization process, and having a melt flow rate (MFR, 230&#xb0; C./2.16 kg) greater than 10 g/10 min, and a 1% secant flexural modulus of at least 250 kpsi (1720 MPa).

Broad molecular weight distribution polypropylenes with high melt flow rates and high flexural modulus

A method of melt blending a polypropylene and the melt blended polypropylene therefrom, comprising providing a base-polypropylene having a MFR of less than 15 g/10 min and a molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn) within the range from 5 to 16, and comprising hindered phenol and phosphorous-type antioxidants, and within the range from 5 ppm to 4000 ppm of an alkyl radical scavenger relative to the total weight of the components to form a melt blended polypropylene; melt blending the melt blended polypropylene at a temperature of at least 210&#xb0; C.; and isolating a melt blended, melt blended polypropylene.

High melt strength polypropylene and extrusion process for preserving melt strength

A process comprising combining a polymerization catalyst with propylene at a polymerization temperature to produce polypropylene granules having an MFR1, wherein the temperature of the polypropylene granules is maintained at least at the polymerization temperature; mixing the polypropylene granules with an organic peroxide at a temperature of at least the polymerization temperature for a residence time of at least 40 seconds at a temperature below the melting point temperature of the polypropylene granules to form a polypropylene product having an MFR2, wherein MFR1 is greater than MFR2.

Process to produce strain hardened polypropylene

A process to prepare a polypropylene, and the polypropylene and films therefrom, comprising combining a high melt strength polypropylene comprising at least 50 mol % propylene, and having a molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn) greater than 6, a branching index (g') of at least 0.95, and a melt strength of at least 20 cN determined using an extensional rheometer at 190&#xb0; C., and within the range from 20 to 1000 ppm of a long half-life organic peroxide, and isolating the polypropylene, wherein the polypropylene thus formed has a molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn) within a range of from 7 to 22, a z-average molecular weight of less than 1,600,000 g/mole, a branching index (g&#x2032;) of at least 0.95; and a melt strength less than 20 cN.

Polypropylene for films and the films therefrom

A process to form a polypropylene composition comprising combining at a temperature within a range from 190&#xb0; C. to 320&#xb0; C. a polypropylene resin and within the range from 0.01 wt % to 3 wt % of at least one organic peroxide, by weight of the polypropylene composition and within a range from 100 to 4000 ppm each of phosphorous- and hindered phenol antioxidants; the polypropylene resin comprising at least 50 mol % propylene, and having a molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn) greater than 6, a branching index (g') of at least 0.97, and a melt strength greater than 10 cN determined using an extensional rheometer at 190&#xb0; C. Extrusion of polypropylenes with organic peroxides

The invention relates to a continuous polymerization process for preparing a random ethylene interpolymer which comprises: (A) polymerizing ethylene, and an &#x3b1;-olefin comonomer selected from propylene and/or 1-butene, and mixtures thereof, under continuous random polymerization conditions in the presence of single site catalyst system employing an ionic activator having cyclic ligands shielding a central charge bearing atom, at a temperature of 140&#xb0; C. to 250&#xb0; C. at a conversion of ethylene of 80 to 99% and a comonomer conversion of from at least 20%; and (B) devolatilizing the polymer to provide an ethylene copolymer having a density of from 0.85 to 0.92 g/cm, an MI of from 0.01 to 100 g/10 min and an I/Iof from 30 to 400.
