An apparatus for effecting a vibrating motion comprises a resonant planar armature, a housing, an electromagnetic device attached to the housing for effecting an alternating electromagnetic field, a magnetic device coupled to the armature and to the electromagnetic field for alternatively moving the armature in a first and a second direction in response to the electromagnetic field. The resonant planar armature comprises a plurality of planar spring members arranged regularly about a central planar region within a planar perimeter region of the armature, and the spring members provide a restoring force normal to a movement of the central region of the armature caused by the alternating electromagnetic field.

A housing for receiving an energy source having first and second ends. The housing has a chamber for receiving the energy source in a first direction, a first contact positioned in the chamber and coupled to the housing for electrically contact the first end of the energy source, and retaining means rotatably positioned in the chamber for securing the energy source. The retaining means incorporates a second electrical contact for contacting the second end of the energy source. The chamber is sealed by a retractable door that encloses the chamber, first contact, and the retaining means.

Battery contact

A device to aid an individual in putting on an elastic stocking. The device includes a member with a slidable surface. The member has a U-shaped portion on a front end extending into a flat base portion on the back end. The U-shaped portion has opposed side walls extending upwardly from a flat bottom base. A stocking is bunched up and slid over the front end and onto the side walls to form a cavity for inserting a first foot of the individual. The second foot exerts pressure on the flat base portion while the first foot slides along the flat base portion and into the stocking cavity. The stocking slides off the side walls and the front end as the first foot is slid forward. In the process the stocking is slid on the first foot of the individual.

Device for aiding in the putting on of stockings or the like

An alerting device for a paging receiver for generating vibration motion in the paging receiver housing. The alerting means comprises an electric motor, an eccentric weight, and a linking means. The electric motor is activated in response to an alert signal for rotating a driving shaft. The driving shaft is coupled to the eccentric weight by the linking means for rotating the eccentric weight. The linking means includes a driving means and a receiving means such that rotary motion is transmitted from the shaft to the eccentric weight while preventing transmission of vibration motion from the eccentric weight to the shaft. The eccentric weight is mechanically attached to the housing for transmitting the vibration motion directly to the housing without passing the vibration motion through the electric motor.

This invention relates to a holder and mounting arrangement which can be mounted at any angle to various surfaces, for use with a radio telephone handset. Operation of the holder will permit insertion or removal of the handset from either end. The geometry of the retainer member allows pivoting action of either pair of spring washer set which enables the user to lift either the front or rear edge of the handset to clear the recess and slide it free of the guiderails for operation. The assembly is adaptable to various mounting surfaces within the passenger compartment of any vehicle. During operation, the grooved handset is inserted between the top rails of the retainer member and pushed along the guiderails, which lifts the retainer member against the spring load of the captivated spring washers until the handset is seated in the associated central cavity of the base member. Lifting or depressing the free end of the handset allows it to be slid out of the rails as the resulting leading edge will clear the edges of the central cavity in the base member. The handset can similarly be inserted into the holder assembly by placing one groove of the handset to the corresponding guiderail until secured. The handset can be withdrawn by grasping the handset and levering upward which will cause the holder to open and allow the handset to be removed from the holder.

An improved stackable integrated chip carrierassembly is disclosed which is especially suited for use in printed circuit board with dense configuration of components in limited areas of surface. The chip carrier assembly is mounted on an associated circuit board and allows the vertical stacking of active components in chip form, integral therein. The interconnections of the associated integrated circuit chips are accomplished without soldering which lends itself for easy disassembly when it becomes necessary to remove or replace an internal chip. The chip carrier assembly has an adaptable design allowing single or vertically stacked utilization of the module-like package. To achieve the necessary electrical isolation property, a ceramic cap is placed at the upper most position relative to the integrated module assembled package. This design has relatively few parts and allows smaller diameter wire to be used to achieve the required integrated circuit chip to package electrical bonding connections, when such is required.

An improved housing arrangement is disclosed for a small, hand-held battery powered portable device which includes an associated battery compartment with integral battery door accessible from the side of the housing. The battery door and compartment are intercoupled by a non-destructive, breakaway hinge device which permits separation therebetween when the door is pivoted outwardly from the top beyond a set predetermined limit. It may be reattached simply and conveniently by a press fit. A latch mechanism is included integral with the surface of the battery door which may be operated by hand without special tools to latch and unlatch the door.

A single molded plastic part forms the actuator, the latching beam and the retainer for holding the latch mechanism in position, and also provides detented open and closed positions. The latch mechanism can be used with the door or closure for an opening in a housing, such as the battery door for a small portable electronic device. The one-part latch has an actuating button on one side of the door which cooperates with resilient retainer tabs to hold the latch in movable engagement with the door. An integral latching beam may extend on the other side of the door and be movable to a position to latch the door. Indentations on the beam, or on another part of the latch, can cooperate with a detent cam to hold the latch mechanism in released or open, and latched or closed positions. The latch mechanism can be either slidably or rotatably movable for the latching operation.

A retractable mounting clip arrangement is provided for use with miniaturized, hand-held apparatus intended to be worn on the person of the user such as on a belt or in the shirt pocket. The clip arrangement includes a curved base plate assembly designed to position with a corresponding curved recess in the apparatus housing. A mounting clip, preferably formed of a thin steel strip is pivotably hinged to the base plate. The base plate is made to slide within the curved recess so that in one position the mounting clip is substantially flush with the surface of the housing and in still another slidable position the mounting clip is positioned entirely above the housing surface and operable to clamp onto a shirt pocket or belt.

Retractable mounting clip arrangement for miniature portable apparatus

A detachable mounting clip arrangement is disclosed especially suited for application with miniaturized radio apparatus or the like of the type intended to be worn on the person such as on a belt or in the shirt pocket. The clip arrangement includes a tapered base plate assembly designed to insert within a recess formed by two convergent undercut side walls on the apparatus housing itself and retained therein by a ratchet like serrated section included on the housing surface which interacts with a resilient finger extending laterally from the base plate. The base plate itself is designed to support a conventional pivotable mounting clip assembly and associated torsion spring.

A structure for clamping a plurality of battery cells to prevent deformation thereof, includes a pair of pressure plates positioned against the ends of a stack of battery cells and a plurality of bands which extend around the cells and the end plates to hold the end plates in fixed position with respect to each other. The structure can be used with a plurality of sealed cells of rectangular configuration to pevent expansion of the cells of the type where pressure can build up therein, such as ni-clad rechargeable batteries, and thereby prevent bulging of the electrodes of the cells to injure the same. The pressure plates can be made of steel to also serve as heat sinks during welding of the bands, and the bands can be formed of steel strips which are preferably cinched tight about the cells and welded together. Partitions can be positioned between adjacent cells, with edges welded to the bands to prevent expansion of the cellsin a direction parallel to the pressure plates.
