A valve is provided that comprises a valve body including an inlet, an outlet, and a check valve chamber having an opening through the side of the valve body. The valve has a cover secured within the side opening in the valve body. A first valve opening is disposed between the inlet chamber and outlet chamber. A control valve is movable relative to the first valve opening to regulate fluid flow through the first opening when fluid flow is in the inlet-to-outlet direction, and is movable to engage the first valve opening to restrict fluid flow in the outlet-to-inlet direction. The valve comprises a second valve opening disposed between the check valve chamber and the outlet chamber. A check valve member is movable relative to the second valve opening to restrict forward flow and permit reverse flow through the second valve opening.

A four port reversing valve for a reversible-cycle refrigeration system having a compressor is constructed with the reversing valve having a first inlet port adapted to be connected to the compressor and second, third, and fourth ports. The four port reversing valve is further provided with a valve member operable between first and second positions. The valve member in its first position connects the first inlet port with the second port and the third port with the fourth port, and the valve member in its second position connects the first inlet port with the fourth port, and the second port with the third ports. The second and third ports and the third and fourth ports are arranged so that the angle between the ports is about 135&deg;. In one embodiment the valve member rotates, and in another it translates linearly. Several means are disclosed for actuating the valve member.

Cycle reversing valve for use in heat pumps

A four port reversing valve for a reversible-cycle refrigeration system having a compressor is constructed with the reversing valve having a first inlet port adapted to be connected to the compressor and second, third, and fourth ports. The four port reversing valve is further provided with a rotatable valve member operable between first and second positions. The valve member in its first position connects the first inlet port with the second port and the third port with the fourth port, and the valve member in its second position connects the first inlet port with the fourth port, and the second port with the third ports. The second and third ports and the third and fourth ports are arranged so that the angle between the ports is greater than about 90&deg;. The third port is preferably oriented at an angle of about 120&deg; with respect to the second and fourth ports, but the third port may also be oriented at an angle of about 135&deg; with respect to the second and fourth ports. The four port reversing valve further comprises a rotating drive mechanism with the valve member magnetically coupled to the rotating drive mechanism. Alternatively, a linked rotary solenoid or hermetic motor can be connected to the valve member.

An in-line sight indicator structure for a fluid system wherein a chamber defining flow-through sight housing includes a sight glass in one wall portion thereof and a support member extending from an opposite wall portion in spaced relation to the sight glass to support an indicator element mounted thereon within a fluid stream passed through the chamber, the housing being hermetically sealed from ambient.

An apparatus and method for filtering a fluid stream wherein the fluid stream is passed through a first filtering zone to remove particulate materials therefrom above a first preselected micron level, then through a desiccant media bed zone including a multiplicity of desiccant beads to dry the fluid stream and then through a second filtering zone to remove particulate materials therefrom above a second preselected micron level below said first micron level so as to remove smaller particulate materials including particulates from said first filtering zone.

Filter drier and method of filtering a fluid stream

A filter drier is disclosed for installation in a liquid refrigerant line of a refrigeration system, the filter drier comprising a housing having an inlet at one end thereof and an outlet at the other end thereof. The liquid refrigerant is discharged from the inlet into the housing in a jet and a perforate plate is provided within the housing against which this jet impinges for diffusing the refrigerant jet substantially across the width of the housing. A filter filters the diffused liquid refrigerant and a bed of desiccant beads is provided with a perforate divider between the filter and the desiccant. A perforate support plate supports the desiccant bed and a second filter bears on the downstream perforate support plate with the desiccant being engageable with the second filter. A spring is interposed between the perforate divider and the housing upstream from the desiccant bed so that the spring applies a resilient, compressive force on the desiccant bearing on the second filter thereby to maintain the desiccant beads in a compacted state such that the diffuser plate and the first filter prevents the jet of liquid refrigerant from impinging directly on the desiccant beads thereby to substantially prevent movement of the beads relative to one another with attendant breakage or chipping of the desiccant beads.
