In a computer system having redundant SCSI controllers cards, a SCSI controller interface for receiving multiple interchangeable SCSI controller cards is configured so that the data bus paths between each of the SCSI controller slots and the controller circuitry do not cross.

SCSI connector

In a computer system having redundant power supplies, an I.sup.2 C data bus architecture it utilized to provide communication between the power supplies and other computer peripherals connected to the I.sup.2 C bus. A switch separates the power supplies from the other peripheral devices, such that the switch, when open, isolates the power supplies from the other devices, so that during power-up the power supplies can communicate over the I.sup.2 C bus. When the switch is closed, the switch becomes transparent and connects the peripherals with the power supplies over the I.sup.2 C bus.

Data communication circuit for controlling data communication between

A modular computer chassis constructed with a center pluggable interface adapted for the modular mounting of components on opposite sides thereof. The chassis includes frontal and rear regions which are open and adapted for receipt of modular computer components therein for direct coupling to the center pluggable interface. An isolation frame is also provided within the chassis for physically and electrically isolating select components therein one from the other. A slidable mounting array is also provided for facilitating flexibility in the mounting of half height and one-third height disk drives adjacent to the center pluggable interface for flexibility in the design and utilization of the chassis of the present invention.

Computer chassis assembly

An interface between a CPU bus and peripheral device such as a standard embedded controller disk drive uses either a dedicated, I/O mapped register set for control and status communication between the host CPU and the disk controller, or an alternate 'flex mode' protocol which allows the drive to be used with great versatility in a wide variety of systems. This alternate 'flex mode' protocol does not require changes to the hardware definition of the drive interface, but instead uses the data port to transfer information blocks to set up a subsequent data transfer through this port.
