An air nozzle assembly for use in associated combustion apparatus which includes a first elongated housing having first and second axial extremities. The first axial extremity thereof is open to the interior of the first housing and tapers axially from a larger to a smaller cross section that constitutes a generally flat nozzle at the first axial extremity. A second elongated housing has first and second axial extremities. The fist axial extremity is open to the interior of the second housing, at least the first axial extremity and an axial portion of the second elongated housing are dimensioned and configured to extend with at least the first axial portion disposed within the first elongated housing. The first axial portion tapers axially from a larger to a smaller cross section at the first axial extremity. The apparatus also includes means for selectively preventing flow in the second elongated housing.

Secondary and tertiary air nozzle for furnace apparatus

An air nozzle assembly for use in an associated combustion apparatus which includes a secondary air nozzle apparatus. The air nozzle apparatus may be a part of the windbox of an associated furnace. The apparatus includes a housing which has at least a part thereof disposed surrounding a first axis. The part has respective first second third and fourth cross-sectional areas at first, second, third and fourth axially spaced planes that are perpendicular to and axially spaced along the first axis of the part of the housing. The cross sectional area of each of the first second third and fourth cross-sectional areas each different from each other of the cross sectional areas. The apparatus also includes a diffuser member; apparatus for supporting the diffuser; and apparatus for moving the apparatus for supporting along a second axis, the second axis is parallel to the first axis. In some forms of the invention the diffuser member is a rotationally symmetrical object which may be a truncated conical body. The apparatus for supporting the diffuser is a cylindrical member in some forms of the invention.

Secondary air nozzle and starting burner furnace apparatus

Sawdust is mixed with partially concentrated black liquor from pulp manufacture. The sawdust, coated with the solids of the black liquor, is dried by heated air. The sawdust, coated with organic and inorganic black liquor solids, is fed to the hearth of a chemical recovery boiler. Combustion of the char formed on the boiler hearth produces heat which causes additional organic material to pyrolize. The inorganic material combines to form molten smelt. The moisture-laden, heated air from the dryer is introduced into the boiler with the secondary air and the smelt is tapped off into an aqueous solution to form green liquor.
