The filter may be adapted to decrease the computational complexity of the resulting calculations, making the filter amenable to use in power sensitive applications and in those situations where the available processor's performance is relatively limited.

A spread spectrum based multichannel modulation Ultra-Wideband (UWB) communication transceiver for indoor wireless operations is presented according to some embodiments. The spread spectrum based multichannels are orthogonal to each other and allow for an operation in parallel. The UWB communication transceiver can also avoid interference with WLAN 802.11a devices in the same environment. In addition, the UWB communication transceiver of the present invention can transmit and receive the scalability chip data rates from 650 Mcps to 7.15 Gcps.

Spread spectrum based multichannel modulation for ultra wideband communications

This invention presents a system of a multiband MIMO-based W-CDMA and UWB communications for wireless and local area wireless communications. The system includes a W-CDMA base station, an UWB base station, and p-user dual-mode W-CDMA and UWB portable stations. Multiband MIMO-based W-CDMA and UWB communications

A multiuser direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) multiband of Ultra Wideband (UWB) communication system for short-distance wireless broadband communications is disclosed for indoor environment operations. Eleven frequency bands are employed, with each of the frequency bands having 650 MHz bandwidths. A 1024-point IFFT and FFT with 1,000 subcarriers are used to carry data and pilots within each of the frequency bands. The multiuser DSSS-OFDM multiband of the UWB communication system can transmit N different users at the same time by using a unique spreading sequence for each of the N different users. A QPSK modulation is used for a different data rate with scalability. The maximum transmitting data rate of the UWB communication system can achieve about 5.541 Gbps.

Multiuser DSSS-OFDM multiband for ultra wideband communications

A multichannel filter-based handheld UWB communication transceiver is presented for outdoor operations. Using eleven multichannels with multicarrier modulations, the invented handheld UWB communication transceiver can transmit and receive UWB signals at a data rate up to 7.15 Gcps with scalability capabilities. In addition, the handheld UWB communication transceiver can be controlled in a programmable way to avoid interference with WLAN devices.

Multichannel filter-based handheld ultra wideband communications

This invention presents a dual-mode wireless/wired power line communications that is used to carry signals with variable transmission data rates from 31.0 Mbps to 173.6 Mbps over a power line cable. The dual-mode wireless/wired power line communications can be seamlessly used either to connect with any wired devices over cable lines directly or to connect with any wireless devices without wires. This enables multiuser to access high-speed Internet over the wall power sockets, and to provide distribution of data and multiple data streams, such as voice over IP, audio and video, HDTV, throughout the home, office, hotel room or airport waiting area, and so on. On the other hand, using the dual-mode wireless/wired power line communications modem is to utilize the availability of an existing infrastructure of wires and wall outlets, thereby eliminating the requirements of new installation of power line cables.

Dual-mode wireless and wired power line communications

A MIMO-based multiuser OFDM multiband of UWB communications is presented to meet FCC emission limitations for indoor UWB operations. The present UWB system divides a single UWB frequency band of 7.5 GHz into eleven frequency bands as a multiband. Each frequency band has 650-MHz frequency bandwidth, uses an OFDM with multicarrier, and employs different modulations. The present UWB system can be programmable not only to transmit different data rates in a relatively longer distance but also to avoid interference with other devices by controlling the multiband and/or some of the multicarrier within each of the OFDM. The present UWB system can transmit a very high data rate up to 11 Gbps approximately.

MIMO-based multiuser OFDM multiband for ultra wideband communications

A dual mode filter for mobile communication may implement two disparate cellular systems such as GSM and W-CDMA. The same transceiver may be utilized to selectively receive and transmit in either of the two systems. When the system is in a GSM area, the system sends and receives GSM signals using programmable filters. Two cascaded digital decimation filters may substitute for one narrow band digital decimation filter in conventional designs. One of the filters is a multi-band digital decimation filter with N bands and the other of the digital filters is used to reject the N&#x2212;1 multi-band of the system. The number of taps on each filter may selectively be set to implement either GSM or W-CDMA. In addition, the output for the system may be set to be the output of the first filter, in the case of a W-CDMA system, or the combination of the two cascaded filters in a GSM system.

During an operation mode, the dual-mode UWB communication transceiver sends and receives indoor or outdoor UWB signals using indoor or outdoor programmable filters with a multichannel-based multicarrier modulator and downconverter. The dual-mode UWB communication transceiver along with novel transmitter and receiver architectures is able to selectively transmit and receive a very-high data rate with scalability and programmability in an indoor and/or outdoor environment.

Dual-mode transceiver for indoor and outdoor ultra wideband communications

A multimode and multiband MIMO transceiver of W-CDMA, WLAN and UWB communication is disclosed. The transceiver uses four antennas at the transmitter and the receiver. The W-CDMA has a multicarrier for 12 channels with a total of 15 MHz frequency bandwidth and is able to transmit a data rate more than 2 Mbps. The WLAN can transmit and receive the data rate up to 54 Mbps based on OFDM technologies. On the other hand, the UWB communication uses an OFDM-based multicarrier for four-multiband, with each multiband of frequency bandwidth about 512 MHz, and is able to transmit a very high data rate more than 1 Gbps. Thus, the multimode and multiband MIMO transceiver of W-CDMA, WLAN and UWB communication is enable a user to perform multiple tasks in a real-time operation. This multimode and multiband MIMO-based transceiver utilizes a trade-off benefit of W-CDMA, WLAN and UWB communications, thereby having a co-existence of multi-standard for applications in a wireless and fixed wireless communication environment.

This invention presents a MIMO wireless sensor networks communication, which is expected to utilize a larger of size sensor nodes in commercial environments, potentially hostile and militarily sensitive environments. Every sensor node of the MIMO sensor networks communication is to support data collection, signal processing and analysis, and transmission fashion. The present invention also develops novel approaches of advanced space-time processing with the MIMO sensor-antenna architecture, spread spectrum, and adaptive communication signal processing that simultaneously exploit temporal and spatial diversity for seamless sensor networks communications, thereby converting spatially distributed sensor nodes into efficient, robust, reliable, and secure wireless sensor networks communications.

Multiple-input multiple-output wireless sensor networks communications

A dual-mode ultra wideband (UWB) and wireless local area network (WLAN) communication transceiver is used to implement two disparate systems of UWB and WLAN communications within a single device. During the UWB mode, the communication transceiver sends and receives the UWB signal at very-high data rate with a relative short transmission range. During the WLAN mode, the communication transceiver sends and receives the WLAN signal at a relative low data rate, but with a longer transmission range. Thereby, trade-off benefits of the dual-mode UWB and WLAN communication transceiver can be mutually utilized to achieve seamless wireless broadband communications between two different standards.

Dual-mode ultra wideband and wireless local area network communications

This invention presents a wireless UWB-based space-time networks communication that is used to utilize a larger number of sensor nodes in commercial, potentially hostile, and militarily sensitive environments. The sensor networks communications contain N wireless UWB-based space-time sensor nodes, M sensor node forward stations and a sensor basestation. Each of wireless UWB-based space-time sensor nodes is to support data collection with a multimode sensing, signal processing and analysis, and transmission fashion by using an UWB pulse modulation with a multiple antenna. The sensor node forward stations have a dual-mode transmitting function based MIMO space-time and UWB approaches along with a spread spectrum technology. The sensor basestation also uses a space-time approach with MIMO sensor-antenna architecture. Thus, the wireless UWB-based sensor networks communications simultaneously exploit temporal and spatial diversity for sensor networks communications, thereby converting spatially distributed UWB-based sensor nodes into efficient, robust, reliable, and secure wireless sensor communications.

Wireless UWB-based space-time sensor networks communications

An analog-to-digital (A/D) converter bank with digital down conversion (DDC) is used to substitute a very-high-speed A/D converter for the UWB transceiver. The A/D converter bank has flexibility and scalability operation functions including the number of low-speed A/D converters, adaptive amplifiers, digital FIR filters or one Mth frequency band digital FIR filter, with operating in parallel, as well as analyzed sequence and synthesized sequence switches. The A/D converter bank for the UWB transceiver has a aliasing free and does not have a phase distortion. The DDC, which has scalability to deal with a multirate operation, is used to shift bandpass signals into baseband signals and decimate the baseband signals according to different down samplings. The A/D converter bank with DDC is invented to decrease the computational complexity of resulting calculations, thereby making the UWB transceiver system amenable to use in a very high frequency sampling sensitive applications and in those situations where the available processor's performance is relatively limited.
