A convex pivoting pad mountable to a snow thrower or other handle-directed, small engine equipment and on to which the equipment weight may be shifted to facilitate turning. In one embodiment, the pad is frame-mounted to the equipment by way of a pedestal assembly. In other embodiments, one or more pads are pivotally mounted in relation to the chassis or lever arms to selectively control the required tilt force relative to the equipment wheels. In a further embodiment, a lever-actuated linkage coupled to the drive axle raises/lowers the pad as the opposite wheel drives the snow thrower therearound.

Turning apparatus for handle-operated equipment

Strips of resilient material on each of two normally stationary spaced-apart rolls contact and press against opposite sides of a web being supplied to a using process and the leading edge of a reserve web. At least one strip of adhesive tape, lightly adhered to one of the strips of resilient material with its adhesive side facing out, bonds the leading edge of the reserve web to the supply web on the fly without stopping the motion of the web. When the web consists of netting material, adhesive tape is used on both rolls and the adhesive tape is pressed face to face by the resilient material through the openings in the netting to adhere to each other, thus pocketing the netting material between them.

Apparatus and method for joining webs on the fly

A tube of flexible strands, closed at one end, is bunched up over a hollow mandrel. A sheet of sorbent material is slit into a plurality of strips before being forced through the mandrel into the tube by pull rollers. The plurality of strips become folded in accordion pleats resembling ribbon candy having a large surface area as they are forced into the tube. As the tube becomes filled with strips it is forced off the mandrel. When full, the second end of the tube is closed. The finished, filled tube is useful as a sorbent for oil, especially oil on the surface of water. The buoyancy of the finished tube is varied by the inclusion of a buoyant strip.

Sorbent boom with flotation and apparatus and method for stuffing same

A method and apparatus for stacking in precise alignment relatively large, flat, lightweight and flexible objects such as low density felted, fiber pads are disclosed. The disclosed method comprises the steps of feeding the pads towards the stack, rotating the leading edge of a pad to be stacked approximately 180.degree. to place the leading edge of the pad at the top of the stack in a position reversed top-bottom due to the rotation, and causing the remaining portion of the pad to follow in the position reversal along the top of the stack. The disclosed apparatus comprises at least one wheel with clips thereon for receiving and securing the leading edge of the pad, means such as an electric motor for rotating the wheel, means such as a slotted planar guide for disengaging the leading edge of the pad from the at least one wheel in precise alignment at the top of the stack as the at least one wheel rotates through the slots, and means such as air pressure directed against the pad remainder to cause it to take its place along the top of the stack. More than one pad may be stacked simultaneously according to the invention.

A device for winding and slitting rollable materials is disclosed. The device both winds and cuts the material simultaneously whereby evenly cut rolled material is obtained.

Winding and slitting apparatus

A method for attaching plastic nets to non-woven blankets without use of adhesives is disclosed. The net is positioned adjacent the non-woven blanket and then the strands of the netting are vibrated causing surface fibers of the blanket to surround the strands and hold the net to the blanket without the use of adhesives.
