A gearbox assembly for a gas turbine engine used in an aircraft having passive lubrication capabilities during wind milling includes a gearbox housing, a gear train assembly housed within the gearbox housing, a lubricant in the gearbox housing for lubricating the gear train assembly, and a first scavenge port formed in the gearbox housing. The first scavenge port is changeable between an open position and a closed position. Further, the first scavenge port remains in the open position during normal operation of the gas turbine engine to allow the lubricant to drain from the gearbox housing. Upon occurrence of a loss of lubricant pressure in the gearbox assembly, the first scavenge port is changed to the closed position to trap at least a portion of the lubricant in the gearbox housing. Thus, the trapped lubricant provides passive lubrication to the gear train assembly during the loss of lubricant pressure.

An actuator decoupler for selectively coupling and decoupling a driving part and a driven part of an actuation system is disclosed. The driving part can be coupled to the actuator decoupler, and the actuator decoupler can be coupled to the driven part via at least one coupling pin. In a selectively coupled state, the driven part can be at least one of rotationally and longitudinally fixed to the actuator decoupler and, thereby, the driving part. The actuator decoupler can be decoupled from the driven part through the use of a preloaded energy mechanism configured to disengage the at least one coupling pin from the driven part. Thereby, the actuator may be responsive to a jam in the actuation system to selectively decouple the driven part from the actuator decoupler and the driving part so that the driven part has freedom to translate at least one of rotationally and longitudinally.

A lip section extends from a distal end of the stem and protrudes outwardly relative to the stem. An engagement section extends from the lip section. A method for heating a fluid in a turbine engine is provided. The method includes channeling an exhaust flow through an exhaust duct of the turbine engine and coupling a panel to the exhaust duct. The panel includes a first wall and an opposite second wall that is spaced a distance from the first wall such that at least one passageway is defined within the panel. The fluid is supplied to the at least one passageway through an inlet defined at a first end of the passageway, such that heat is transferred from the exhaust flow to the fluid flowing through the panel. The fluid is injected into the turbine engine.

A retaining system for field winding end turns of a rotor, such as for a dynamoelectric machine. The rotor has an outer peripheral surface, radial end surfaces, axially-extending slots in the peripheral surface, and field windings in the slots. The field windings axially project from the end surfaces of the rotor and are connected outside of the slots by field winding end turns. The end turns are surrounded by the retaining system, which includes a shield member surrounding the end turns and a retainer member surrounding to the shield member. The shield member has flanges received in the slots along with the field windings. Fastening features engage the flanges to inhibit axial movement of the retaining system.

A system and method for analyzing a baseline geometry and, optionally, a modified geometry. The method can include generating a numerical representation of a baseline geometry having baseline elements identified with first identifiers or element identifiers, and then assigning second identifiers or analyzer identifiers to the elements. A selected characteristic of the geometry, such as structural loading, is analyzed with reference to the second or analyzer identifiers. At least one of the elements of the geometry can then be altered in a manner that at least partially automatically adjusts the surrounding geometry, and the same first identifier or element identifier is associated with the altered element as was associated with the baseline, unaltered element. The altered geometry can be analyzed with respect to a third identifier (or another analyzer identifier) and a correspondence between the identifiers, the baseline element, and the altered element can be established and maintained. Accordingly, the boundary conditions and/or the mesh applied to the baseline geometry can be automatically applied to the altered geometry by referring to the first or element identifiers. Therefore, the time and effort required to analyze the altered geometry can be reduced when compared to the effort typically required by conventional methods.
