A paperboard tray which resists warping is formed of a unitary blank, the blank having a polymer coating on its tray interior forming surface. The polymer coating is typically a heat resistant, non-stick, FDA approved polymer applied by extrusion coating. The upstanding sidewalls of the tray are joined to respective peripheral portions of the tray base through curved score lines on the tray interior surface. Curved cut lines on the exterior tray surface are each aligned with respective curved score lines on the tray interior surface, the cut lines extending 75 to 90 percent through the blank. The curved score lines and their complementary cut lines may be curved either convex outwardly or concavely inwardly with respect to the tray base.

Reduced warp paperboard tray

A container for storing product and a process and apparatus for making the container. The container comrises a paperboard outer container and a plastic inner container which has been drawn and blow formed into the outer container. The container is characterized by plastic screw threads which extend from the plastic inner container around the upper portion of the outside of the paperboard outer container. The screw threads permit a cap to be screwed onto the container after product, e.g. food, is placed in the container. The screw threads are vacuum formed, preferably simultaneously with the blow forming of the plastic inner container.

Process for making a container for storing food

Apparatus for making container for storing food

The container comprises a paperboard outer container and a plastic inner container which has been drawn and blow formed into the outer container. At the mouth of the container are horizontal plastic flanges which extend about the periphery of the container at least about 1/8 inch outwardly from the plastic inner container. Vertical flanges extend downwardly at least about 1/8 inch from the horizontal flanges. After product is placed in the container, the container is sealed by a heat sealable cover. A plastic overcap may be provided which engagedly fits around the container at its top.

Disclosed is a container for storing product, a process and apparatus for making that container, a process and apparatus for drawing and blow forming plastic into a paperboard outer container and a process and apparatus for heat sealing a container. Container for storing food

An apparatus for forming articles such as paperboard cartons from a single piece blank, comprising a first article holding member containing a cut-out and a second article holding member adapted to mate with the cut out. A portion of the workpiece is grasped by the mating surfaces of the holding members. Article forming members are provided in which the ungrasped portions of the workpiece are cradled. The forming members are capable of mating in close fitting relationship about the holding members. As the forming members move towards the holding members, they move the ungrasped cradled portions of the workpiece against the lateral surfaces of the mated holding members, sandwiching them between the mated holding members and mated forming members. The mated holding members serve as a forming mandrel to impart the desired shape to the workpiece. By properly sizing the forming members, corner seals on items such as paperboard cartons can be formed as the forming members mate around the holding members. It has been found desirable to recess certain lateral surfaces of the first holding member relative to those of the second holding member, and to taper selected surfaces of the holding and forming members, as explained in greater detail herein.
