A control for a grinding machine of the type having a grinding wheel mounted at an oblique angle relative to a workpiece, the control including means for receiving first data representative of a contour to be ground on the workpiece defined in a first set of axes in a workpiece coordinate system, means for transforming the first data into a set of second data defined in a second set of axes relative to the grinding wheel and means for generating output signals to cause the grinding wheel to grind a predefined contour on the workpiece in accordance with the second data.

Control for grinding machine

A microprocessor numerical control system having a prom module which contains the operating program of the system and a processor module which contains a microprocessor generating multiplexed data and address information on an internal bus. The processor module further includes bus control logic and address and data transceivers which interface the internal bus with the system's address data and control buses. The processor module further includes a variety of timing and interrupt control circuits which permits selective communication with other modules in the system. The system further includes a peripheral interface module having thereon logic to communicate with a CRT, keyboard, audible and visual indicators and an A to D converter which may be used to input feedrate override information into the processor memory. The peripheral interface module further provides interface circuitry between the processor module and a CRT display and has the capability of displaying on the display, in response to operator commands, input via the keyboard, a character display having a height which is twice that which is displayed in the normal mode of operation. The system further includes a servo output module for generating commands to drive associated motors on each of the axes of the machine tool and a transducer module which provides feedback information from these machine axes. In addition, the system further includes an input signal and an output signal module that are used to indicate and/or command the various states or modes of operation of the machine.

Microprocessor based process control system

A feedback position control system and method of extracting feedback phase or position information therefrom. A resolver or similar device such as an inductosyn is connected to each movable member of a machine tool such that the phase of the resolver output signal is indicative of the displacement of each movable member about its respective axis. The stator windings of the resolver are excited with reference and quadrature signals to generate a periodically varying output signal. The zero crossings of the output signal are monitored and the digital count in a reference counter (C.sub.A and C.sub.B) corresponding to the times of zero crossing are stored. The scaled sum of the counts C.sub.A and C.sub.B is determinative of the phase of the output signal relative to the reference signal.
