A dynamic power budget allocation system includes a plurality of powered subsystems. A power system controller is coupled to the plurality of powered subsystems. The power system controller is operable, for each of a plurality of time intervals, to retrieve power usage data from each of the plurality of subsystems during a current time interval. The power system controller is then operable to project power requirements for the plurality of subsystems for a subsequent time interval using the power usage data. The power system controller is then operable to determine at least one power setting for at least one of the plurality of subsystems using the power requirements, and program the at least one of the plurality of subsystems with the at least one power setting. Each powered subsystem may include a voltage regulator that provides the power usage data and is programmed with the at least one power setting.

Dynamic power budget allocation

A voltage regulator calibrator analyzes voltage regulator output and compares the output with known electrical loads. The calibrator selects a known electrical load, applies the known electrical load to a voltage regulator, receives from the voltage regulator measured output power characteristics of the voltage regulator, compares the known electrical load with the measured output power characteristics, and generates a voltage regulator adjustment value based on the compared values. Embodiments of the present disclosure also include a method for calibrating, the method including selecting a known electrical load, applying the known electrical load to a voltage regulator, receiving measured output power characteristics of the voltage regulator, comparing the known electrical load with the measured output power characteristics, and generating a voltage regulator adjustment value based on the compared values.

Calibration of voltage regulator

A method may include deactivating a switch of a measurement circuit during a measurement portion of at least one voltage regulator phase, wherein each of the at least one voltage regulator phase is integral to a voltage regulator and each of the at least one voltage regulator phase comprises a power stage. The power stage may include a high-side switch for delivering electrical current to the at least one information handling resource in conformity with a first duty cycle of the high-side switch. The power stage may also include a low-side switch for sinking electrical current to an electrical ground in conformity with a second duty cycle of the low-side switch. The method may also include measuring a voltage across a sense resistor of the measurement circuit during the measurement portion, wherein the sense resistor is coupled in parallel with non-gate terminals of the switch.

Systems and methods for sensing current while minimizing measurement error and power loss

A power system is coupled to a powered system and a system capacitance. The power system includes a power system output sensor, a power conversion device, and a power system output controller. The power system output controller includes a powered system threshold that is related to a power excursion capability of the powered system. The power system output controller is operable, in response to receiving a power system output signal from the power system output sensor that exceeds the powered system threshold, to control the power conversion device to increase the power system output from the power conversion device in order to increase the energy stored in the system capacitance for use by the powered system during a power excursion. The powered system may include processors that draw power from the system capacitance during power excursions so as to not exceed the limits of the power system.

Dynamic power system adjustment to store energy for power excursions

A power management system includes a power system. A powered component is coupled to the power system. A power detect circuit is coupled to the power system. A power system controller is coupled to the power system, the powered component, and the power detect circuit. The power system controller is operable, for each of at least one workload run using the powered component, to program the power detect circuit with a first threshold for a first system operation setting and determine that the first threshold was not exceeded while the workload was running. The power system controller is then operable to program the power detect circuit with a second threshold for the first system operation setting, determine that the second threshold was exceeded while the workload was running and, in response, use the second threshold to allocate power from the power system.

Power management system

A method of one-line power mapping in a datacenter includes providing from a management system a pre-defined pattern to a rack system, in response to providing the pre-defined pattern, directing the rack system to enable a power supply unit of the rack system and to modulate a power usage of the rack system to encode the pre-defined pattern onto a power cable, wherein the power supply unit receives operating power from a power distribution unit via the power cable, receiving at the management system a power level signal from the power distribution unit, decoding at the management system the pre-defined pattern from the power level signal, and determining that the rack system is connected to the power distribution unit in response to decoding the pre-defined pattern.

System and method for one-line power mapping of information handling systems in a datacenter

A supplemental power system includes a powered component, a removable module interface with a plurality of pins, and a plurality of system connections. A system controller detects a first type removable module coupled to the removable module interface and allows signals from the system connections to be transmitted to the first type removable module through the plurality of pins. The system controller detects a second type removable module coupled to the removable module interface and allows power from the second type removable module that is received through the plurality of pins to be transmitted to the powered component while not allowing signals from the system connections to be transmitted to the second type removable module through the plurality of pins. Power that is stored in the second type removable module may be provided to the powered component in response to a detected power excursion by the powered component.

Supplemental power system for power excursions

A power management control system for an information handling system is disclosed. The power management control system includes a power management interface bus interfacing a plurality of devices, where one or more of the devices is each associated with a time clock. The power management control system further includes a management agent interfacing the power management interface bus. The management agent is configured to: receive a system time; synchronize the one or more time clocks based, at least in part, on the system time; and maintain synchronization of the one or more time clocks, at least in part, via a set of telemetric primitives.

In accordance with embodiments of the present disclosure, systems and methods for thermal protection in a power system may be provided. In accordance with certain embodiments of the present disclosure, a method for thermal protection in a power system having a plurality of power modules selectively enabled and disabled in accordance with an efficiency policy may be provided. The method may include determining if an operating temperature for the power system is greater than a first threshold temperature. The method may also include enabling one or more power modules disabled in accordance with the efficiency policy in response to a determination that the operating temperature is greater than the first threshold temperature.

System and method for thermal protection in a power system

System and methods for controlling power delivery to system components are disclosed. A controller is communicatively coupled to a point-of-load converter through a first communication path and a shared memory is communicatively coupled to the point-of-load converter through a second communication path. A third communication path communicatively couples the controller and the shared memory. Control data is communicated from the controller to the point-of-load converter through the first communication path and measurement data is written from the point-of-load converter to the shared memory through the second communication path. The controller is operable to read the measurement data from the shared memory through the third communication path.
