An exciter system () able to communicate information between an exciter unit () and one or more remote units () or between multiple exciter units (). The exciter units () may include wireless type exciter devices, such as optimum exciters (), or they may include wired equivalent type exciter devices, such as direct connect exciters (). The exciter devices () inject or extract RF currents () in the metallic framework () of a vehicle. The remote units () couple electromagnetic fields () with the metallic framework () of the vehicle. The information is exchanged with the exciter devices () by communications equipment () that modulates or demodulates the RF currents () and/or electromagnetic fields () with the information. As the RF currents () and/or electromagnetic fields () reach everywhere within, on and in close proximity to the vehicle the information is communicated throughout.

Exciter-excitation system and methods for communications

An Electromagnetic Field Communications System for Wireless Networks for producing an electromagnetic field within a structure is disclosed. The electromagnetic field is produced by using common conductive elements already present within virtually all pre-existing residential commercial, industrial buildings. These conductors, which may include electrical ground shields, wiring, pipes, sprinkler conduits or structural members, are excited with a signal, and become the cavity which contains the electromagnetic field. In preferred embodiments of the invention, signals are generated using the High Frequency, Very High Frequency and lower UHF bands (3 to 30, 30 to 300 and up to 400 MHz). The invention may be used to create a local area network inside the field and within the structure. Devices that include receivers tuned to the electromagnetic field may then be connected and networked. The system may be operated without causing interference to other conventional radio devices outside the structure in the HF band.

An exciter system () is provided for use in facilitating electromagnetic communication within an enclosed space (). The system () includes an exciter () which may be in the form of a three dimensional hemispherical exciter () or a two dimensional planar sector exciter () depending on the size of the associated structure and the power requirements of operation. The exciter system () operates in conjunction with a hub/controller network (). The exciter system () is adapted to induce a quasi-static evanescent field () within the space and to thereby enable communications using the evanescent field () at frequencies within an operational frequency range determined by the characteristics of the space. The exciter () is mounted in opposition to a portion of a conductive framework () within the enclosed space, and is separated therefrom. In operation, a coaxial connector () connects the exciter () to the hub/controller network () with the center conductor () connecting at a feed point () to the exciter () while the shield conductor () is connected to the opposing conductive framework (). In some embodiments a post () acts as a curtain to enhance performance at lower frequencies.

Exciter system and method for communications within an enclosed space

Methods and apparatus for detecting objects. In one embodiment, a person entering a secured or &ldquo;Safe Zone&trade;&rdquo; is illuminated with low-power polarized radio waves. Differently polarized waves which are reflected back from the person are collected and measured. In a preferred embodiment, concealed weapons are detected by calculating the difference of a pair of differences (Delta A and B) of different polarized reflected energy (upper and lower curves in the two graphs) in the time domain, and by using signal processing methods and apparatus to improve the reliability of the detection process.

Signal processing for object detection system

A system, apparatus and method provide wireless communications to a geographical area. The system includes at least one atmospheric platform serving as a central relay or node using a star network topology for the geographic area. The atmospheric platform carries a payload that comprises communications equipment. The system further includes a plurality of user equipment units located within the geographic area and at least one ground station or gateway for providing an information pathway between the user equipment units. The gateway has network processing and switching equipment for routing the information between the users. A wireless trunkline carries signals between the gateway and the atmospheric platform. The apparatus and method comprise gateway and payload uplink portions and downlink portions. The downlink portions aggregates and de-aggregates user generated information from the platform to the gateway. The uplink portions de-aggregate and aggregate the information and route the information with the network switching equipment to intended user equipment units, from the gateway to the platform. The gateway may also provide information pathways from the platform to user equipment units outside of the geographic area through existing communications infrastructure. The system, apparatus and method utilize a wide, non-contiguous band of spectrum in point-to-point links to carry the combined signal traffic from a multitude of subscribers on the ground to the communications switches at the gateway and vice versa, via the airborne platform. The use of wireless trunklines enables all types of switching, including circuit, cell, packet, or frame, or any combination thereof, to be performed by standard equipment housed in facilities on the ground rather than by specially designed equipment located on the airborne platform.
