In an integrated thermal processing method the bulb is completely processed in a dedicated oven. The inside and outside of the bulb are simultaneously heated. The inside and outside are also simultaneously cooled. During the evacuation a temperature gradient is maintained across the face of the panel to reduce tensile stresses which develop in the bulb skirt area during evacuation.

Integrated thermal processing for kinescopes

A substantially flat, flexible, perforated interconnector of an electrically conductive material and such as a metal strip with holes or a metal mesh, is used to electrically connect conductors on a plurality of spaced substantially parallel insulating plates. The strip is placed across the edge of each of the plates adjacent to the conductors. An electrically conductive bonding material is placed on the strip at each plate with the bonding material extending through the openings in the strip and contacting the plates and the conductors. The bonding material adheres to the plates to mechanically secure the strip to the plates and contacts the conductors to provide an electrical connection between the strip and the conductors.

Electrical connection between conductors on spaced plates

A stacking method is employed to assemble a structure which includes a plurality of substantially identical, uniformly spaced parallel glass plates. The method includes the use of a fixture having a slotted surface in which rigid cylindrical spacers can be slidably disposed. Each glass plate is placed with its edge surface on the slotted surface and spaced from the adjacent plates by at least two of the cylindrical spacers, each of the spacers being disposed in a separate slot. Reference planes which are perpendicular to the surface of the fixture are provided so as to maintain the plates in the desired spatial relation. Then, a glass base is bonded onto the opposing edge surface of each of the spaced glass plates. The glass plates and glass base are preferably chosen to be of the same material. The spacers are chosen to be of a material having an expansion coefficient slightly greater than that of the glass plates and glass base.

Method of making a composite glass structure

A piece of glass may be embossed by initially heating the glass to at least its annealing temperature. A die is heated to a temperature higher than the temperature of the glass. The die is then vibrated against the glass so that it continuously makes and breaks contact with the glass so as to prevent the glass from sticking to the hot tool.
