A storage package for multiple recording media includes a plurality of paper board panels arranged end to end and separated from each other by spline strips which allow the panels to be folded upon one another to resemble a closed book. First and second plastic, recording medium-holding latching trays are attached to the inside face of the last panel to be folded and to the panel face opposite the inside face in the folded configuration. Upstanding wall portions on one of the latching trays nest within the corresponding wall portions of the other latching tray when the latching trays are assembled together. Additional trays for holding recording media are attached to panel faces which are in the interior of the package in the closed configuration.

Compact disk package and method of assembling same

A storage package for a recording medium configured to resemble a book includes a paper board panel releasably attached to first and second plastic, recording medium-holding components, each including a planar surface having means on one face for holding a recording. Upstanding wall portions on one of the components nest within the corresponding wall portions of the other component when the components are assembled together. The paper board panel is uncreased, unscored and unfolded and includes first and second panel areas for adhesive attachment of the plastic components. During assembly, the paper board panel is tautly stretched about and adhesively bonded to the assembled plastic components along the faces of the planar surfaces opposite the recording medium holding faces and along a transverse spline edge of the assembled, the creases defining the spline of the book being formed in the paper board panel during adhesive bonding.

A tray for holding multiple discs within a storage container which, desirably, is a conventional single disc jewel box, includes a leaf for mounting discs on opposite sides thereof and a shelf substantially rigidly attached, via attachment plates depending from the shelf, to the jewel box base, the leaf being pivotably connected to the shelf via a hinge connection which permits the leaf to pivot thereabout for accessing discs on both sides of the leaf. Flanges cantilevered from the leaf each have an upwardly opening pivot bore for pivotably engaging a pivot pin supported by the shelf. Reinforcing plates depending from opposite sides of the shelf are spaced from the shelf attachment plates for rigidly reinforcing the shelf while permitting the shelf attachment plates to flex, as needed, to engage the jewel box base.

An improved storage package for a recording medium includes a paper board component releasably attached to a plastic, recording medium-holding component. The paper board component includes a flat base panel having upstanding flaps extending substantially perpendicular to the base panel. The plastic component includes a generally planar surface having a skirt depending therefrom. Lugs extend under the planar surface from the skirt for engaging apertures on the flaps. Inclined walls depend from the planar surface adjacent the skirt for guiding and directing the leading edge of each of the flaps.

This invention is directed to providing detecting means on a thermoplastic mold part comprising a cover and a base panel or comprising a cap enclosure and a bottle. The detecting means comprises an interlocking break-away tab which upon initial opening of the container, the tab breaks away. This is particularly useful with compact disc or cassette containers. This invention is also directed to a thermoplastic container having a pivotal hinged cover and base wherein the hinge pin is of a particular design for securing the pivotal cover and base panels at the hinge end.

An improved rosette for securing a disc having a central aperture includes a raised cylindrical hub projecting upward from a planar base, the hub being formed of first and second upstanding annular sections having substantially cylindrical side walls1, the first annular section comprising at least 180.degree. of the circumferential extent of the circular hub. Each of the annular sections includes at least one radially extending rim projecting outwardly beyond the cylindrical side walls. The second annular section cylindrical wall is positioned radially outwardly of the cylindrical wall of the first annular section and is supported on the base for allowing radially inward and downward pivoting of its cylindrical wall. An arm cantilevered from the cylindrical wall of the second annular section above the base extends radially inwardly toward the central axis of the hub such that downward finger pressure applied to the free end of the arm causes the cylindrical wall of the second annular section to pivot radially inwardly and downwardly to allow the central aperture of a disc mounted on the rosette to be released from engagement with the radially extending rims for one-handed removal of the disc from the rosette. Optionally, the rosette may include resilient ejection means to support a disc above the base when the disc is mounted on the rosette and to urge the disc off of the rosette when the disc is released from engagement with the radially extending rims.

A storage tray for compact discs (CD's) having a central opening consisting of a flat panel base with a plurality of raised cantilever members (fingers), the plurality of raised fingers being referred to as a rosette. The ends of the fingers form a circular opening and are unattached at the end. The fingers have on the underside thereof, a reinforcing rib. Some or all of the fingers may have the reinforcing rib. The fingers with the rib still have sufficient flexibility to move slightly inward and outward when positioning a CD over the rosette.

A storage tray for holding and receiving at least two compact discs wherein the storage tray has a double rosette consisting of an upper and lower rosette the extremities of the cantilever members (fingers) of which form a circular opening having a common center. The double rosette is on at least the same side of the storage tray. Also a storage container or jewel box consisting of a cover and a base pivotally attached at the same end thereof and containing the storage tray with the double rosette.

A slide tray package has, in combination, a slide tray for holding a recording medium (such as a compact disc or audio cassette) and a housing therefor. In the slide tray a receiving area is disposed between the ends and sides thereof for receiving the recording medium for horizontal movement therewith. The slide tray leading end is adapted for automated loading of the slide tray into the housing by being both horizontally tapered and vertically beveled to facilitate telescopic insertion of the slide tray leading end through a leading end of the housing and into a trailing end of the housing. The slide tray trailing end defines a vertically protruding lip configured and dimensioned as a stop for engaging a leading end of the housing to limit the telescopic insertion of the slide tray into the housing. In the housing, the leading end of each of the top and bottom housing faces is configured and dimensioned to enable direct grasping of the slide tray by the user, and the leading end of each of the housing sides is configured and dimensioned to frictionally engage the slide tray, thereby to inhibit accidental telescopic slippage of the slide tray out of the housing.

A storage package for an article and a booklet includes a pair of panels secured together and movable between a closed storage orientation, wherein the panels are substantially overlying with at least an article and a booklet supported by the article disposed intermediate the pair of panels, and an open use orientation, wherein the panels are not substantially overlying and the article and booklet are accessible. A fixed base formed of plastic defines a cavity with a bottom face mounted on one of the panels and an open top face. A floating holder formed of rigid plastic is disposed within the cavity intermediate the faces for receiving and maintaining thereon the article and booklet, the holder being movable between a plurality of positions variably spaced above the cavity bottom face. A spring secured to one of the base and holder biases the holder above the cavity bottom face, thereby to accommodate booklets of varying thickness.

An insertable tray for converting a single compact disc (CD) container (jewel box) into a two CD jewel box, having, however, protrusions on the front and back part of the bottom side of the insertable tray. These protrusions allow automated handling and loading of the CD into the jewel box without damaging the CD on the bottom side through automatic handling and loading the CDs onto each side of the insertable tray for a standard jewel box.
