A method for making a flame propagation resistant foam from a foam substrate including the steps of preparing a flame-retardant solution that includes an organic phosphate ester in water, immersing the foam substrate in the flame-retardant solution to obtain a partially treated foam substrate and curing the partially treated foam substrate at a predetermined temperature for a predetermined amount of time.

Flame propagation resistant foam and method

Provided are methods of treating an open cell polyimide foam product to produce a treated polyimide foam product having a property of repelling water or oil. The method includes the steps of: selecting a polyimide foam product having an external surface area and an open cell structure that has an interior surface area, wetting the exterior surface area and the interior surface area with a chemical treatment fluid comprising a treatment chemical that has a property of repelling water or oil, and distributing the treatment chemical onto at least a portion of the interior surface area sufficient to modify a surface property of the interior surface. Also provided are treated polyimide foam products that have an open cell polyimide foam substrate with an interior surface area and a treatment chemical on at least a portion of the interior surface area. The treatment chemical renders the interior surface hydrophobic or oleophobic.

In one embodiment, a device includes first and second frames members, and a foam insulation member having first and seconds ends. At least one of the first and second ends is disposed at an angle greater than 0 degrees relative to a vertical plane. The first and second ends of the foam insulation member extend between the first and second frame members in compression. The foam insulation member is fixedly held in place between the first and second frame members due to a friction fit resulting from the foam insulation member being disposed between the first and second frame members in compression.
