A process of continuously packaging a thermoplastic composition such as a pressure sensitive hot melt adhesive. The method includes the steps of (a) forming a thermoplastic film to a rigid mold wherein said film becomes molten at or below the usage temperature of a hot melt adhesive composition, and the mold is in contact with ambient air; (b) dispensing hot melt adhesive into the lined mold; (c) disposing a thermoplastic film on the surface of the mold to form a packaged hot melt adhesive; (d) allowing the hot melt adhesive to reach a state in the presence of ambient air such that the packaged hot melt adhesive is removable from the mold.

A process for the purification of soil contaminated with organic material is provided. The preferred process generally involves superposed attrition and classification processes, which lead to removal and concentration of highly contaminated fractions. The process may also include a step of flotation whereby hydrophobic materials in the soil are released to an interface with air bubbles, and are floated to the top of a flotation cell. In preferred processes according to the present invention, soil to be treated is extracted from a contaminated site, and is broken into relatively small particles. These particles are preferably treated in attrition and classification steps, to remove fine, slow settling contaminated materials such as wood and fine soil materials. The resulting isolated coarser materials are then treated by flotation for a final polishing step. The process is particularly well adapted for use in treating soils contaminated with oil and grease materials containing PCP therein, from wood treatment plants or the like.

Process for treating contaminated soil

An arrangement for operation to reduce organic contaminant concentration in water passing therethrough as provided. The arrangement includes at least one reactor comprising a plurality of treatment chambers oriented in series, each chamber including an upstream downcomer portion and a downstream column portion separated by a wall member. Fluid flow is provided between a downcomer portion and the column portion. Means are provided such that water can flow through any associated chamber by introduction into an upper portion of the downcomer portion of the chamber, with passage downwardly to a feed space and a bottom portion of the column portion of the chamber and upwardly through the column portion. The water then flows outwardly from the chamber, into a next downstream chamber if one is provided. Each chamber includes a by-pass arrangement in association therewith, whereby should the column portion become temporarily occluded or plugged water backed up in the next upstream downcomer portion can overflow from an upper part of the downcomer portion across the column portion and above packing material therein, and into the next downstream chamber or, if none is provided, outwardly from the reactor. As a result of the by-pass arrangement, the arrangement according to the invention readily self-corrects for occlusion in any given column portion as a result of overdevelopement of biomass therein. A method is also provided for purification of water contamination with organics. In preferred applications, the method involves inoculating water fed through a staged reactor, to develop a preferred microorganism population profile through the reactor.

Substantially pure honey, molasses, or mixtures thereof can be dried using extrusion or thin film drying. An improved cooling technique can be used with the thin film drying method by applying the hot dried molasses and honey to a cold, rotating cylinder, and then collecting the cooled product from the cylinder.
