A method and system for an air management system (AMS) is provided. The AMS includes a jet pump assembly including a motive air inlet, a plurality of suction inlets, and a single outlet. The AMS also includes a supply piping arrangement including a conduit configured to channel relatively higher pressure air from a compressor to the motive air inlet, a conduit configured to channel relatively higher pressure air from the compressor to at least one of the plurality of suction inlets through a shutoff valve, and a conduit configured to channel relatively lower pressure air from the compressor to at least one of the plurality of suction inlets. The AMS further includes an outlet piping arrangement configured to channel outlet air from said jet pump assembly to a distribution system. A pressure regulation strategy of the motive jet pump flow allows optimization of engine fuel burn and/or thrust, depending on which is most important to the aircraft during any flight phase.

Method and system for air management of aircraft systems

A method and system for a jet pump is provided. The jet pump system includes a pre-mixing bowl includes a nozzle, a mixing section at least partially surrounding the nozzle, and a first inlet opening configured to receive a first flow of fluid and direct the first flow of fluid to an inlet of the nozzle. The pre-mixing bowl further includes a second inlet opening configured to receive a second flow of fluid and to direct the second flow of fluid to the mixing section. The second inlet opening includes a first inlet opening area. The second inlet opening includes an entry angle into the pre-mixing bowl that is oblique with respect to the central axis. The pre-mixing bowl further includes a third inlet opening configured to receive a third flow of fluid to direct the third flow of fluid to the mixing section.

Method and system for a short length jet pump with improved mixing

A method for cooling a turbine shroud assembly includes providing a turbine shroud assembly including a shroud segment having a leading edge, a trailing edge and a midsection defined therebetween. A shroud support circumferentially spans and supports the shroud segment. The shroud support includes a forward hanger coupled to the leading edge, a midsection hanger coupled to the midsection and an aft hanger coupled to the trailing edge. An annular shroud ring structure includes a midsection position control ring coupled to the midsection hanger and an aft position control ring coupled to the aft hanger. Cooling air is extracted from a compressor positioned upstream of the turbine shroud assembly. Cooling air is metered through the shroud support directly into only at least one active convection cooling zone defined between the shroud segment and the shroud support while substantially preventing cooling air from entering an inactive convection cooling zone positioned radially outwardly from the at least one active convection cooling zone and defined between the shroud support and the shroud ring structure and between the midsection position control ring and the aft position control ring.

Methods and system for cooling integral turbine shround assemblies

A gas turbine engine component has an annular flange arm, a backing plate mounted to the flange arm and a bypass circuit formed between the flange arm and the backing plate. The bypass circuit includes one or more channels formed in one of the flange arm or the backing plate. When more than one channels are used, at least one connecting slot is provided between the channels. At least one inlet passage extends through the flange arm in fluid communication with the forward-most channel, and at least one outlet slot is formed between the flange arm and the backing plate in fluid communication with the aft-most channel.

Gas turbine engine component having bypass circuit

A variable ratio transmission apparatus for converting an input torque at a first RPM to an output torque at a second RPM includes a pair of driving discs disposed on an input drive shaft and in spaced parallel relationship thereto, a pair of driven discs disposed on an output drive shaft and a continuous length of metal link chain extending around and in direct contact with each pair of discs so as to create a high frictional force at the discs and chain interface sufficient to transmit motion from the driving discs to the driven discs. The link chain is arranged as a continuously repeating pattern of link plates which are interconnected by pins and a plurality of U-shaped drive members assembled relative to the link plates and pins. The outwardly facing surfaces of each drive member are contoured so as to conform to the surface shape of the driving and driven discs such that the chain is able to move in and out according to disc spacing, thereby realizing different radii. Each drive member includes a pin-receiving groove and each is arranged to be slidably removed when a right-angle bend is placed in the chain.

Infinitely variable ratio transmission apparatus

A variable ratio transmission apparatus for converting an input torque at a first RPM to an output torque at a second RPM includes a pair of driving discs disposed on an input drive shaft and in spaced parallel ralationship thereto, a pair of driven discs disposed on an output drive shaft and a continuous length of metal link chain extending around and in direct contact with each pair of discs so as to create a high frictional force at the discs and chain interface sufficient to transmit motion from the driving discs to the driven discs. The link chain is arranged as a continuously repeating pattern wherein each pattern includes three generally triangular link plates of a clustered configuration which are interconnected by pins disposed in a first row and a plurality of U-shaped drive members connected to the link plates by pins disposed in a second row. Each repeating pattern includes a pair of outside link plates connected to a pair of intermediate link plates which in turn are connected to a pair of inside link plates. In each repeating pattern each pin connecting together each set of two link plate pairs is disposed between and in direct contact with the edges of the third link plate pairs of two contiguous repeating patterns. The outwardly facing surfaces of each drive member are contoured so as to conform to the surface shape of the driving and driven discs such that the chain is able to move in and out according to disc spacing, thereby realizing different radii.

An arrangement for limiting the pressure developed by the combination of gases of a gaseous mixture, such as hydrogen and oxygen in a closed container, for example, in a rechargeable battery. The arrangement includes material having substantial heat capacity and having a high surface-to-volume ratio disposed in free spaces in the container wherein the hydrogen and oxygen may accumulate during the charging or discharging of the battery. When the hydrogen and oxygen combine to form a gaseous product or vapor at a high pressure, the gaseous product is cooled by the aforementioned material to limit the pressure to an amount below that capable of causing rupture of the container. The material may further, in the case of a condensible vapor such as that formed by the combination of hydrogen and oxygen effect a temperature reduction which results in condensation of the vapor to further reduce the pressure to insure against rupture of the container.
