A wastegate assembly for a turbocharger includes a valve element. The valve element has a valve body, a first shaft extending away from the valve body along a first axis, and a second valve shaft spaced from the first valve shaft and extending away from the valve body along a second axis. The valve element is movable between a first and a second position to control exhaust gas flow to a turbine housing interior of the turbocharger. The wastegate assembly also includes a valve arm coupled to the first and second valve shafts for moving the valve element between the first and second positions. The wastegate assembly further includes a washer coupled to at least one of the first and second valve shafts and axially spaced from the valve arm with respect to the first and second axes.

A heat isolating linkage () that includes an elongate link having first and second end portions () and a middle portion () extending therebetween. A bearing opening () is formed in the first end portion () and a bearing race () is disposed in the bearing opening (). A rod end ball () is disposed in the bearing race (). At least one aperture (-) is formed through the middle portion (). The middle portion () may include a plurality of apertures (-) each in the form of a rectangle that forms a ladder pattern. Accordingly, the middle portion () has a cross sectional area (A) that is smaller than the cross sectional area of at least one of the first and second end portions (A, A).

Heat isolating VTG lever and linkage

A plurality of guide vanes () in a variable turbine geometry turbocharger () regulates a flow of exhaust gas. The guide vanes () are selectively adjustable between an open position to allow the flow of exhaust gas to drive a turbine wheel () and a closed position to block the flow of exhaust gas. A first flow feature () is disposed on first () and second () edges of the guide vanes () to disturb the flow of exhaust gas to prevent leakage of exhaust gas around the first () and second () edges. A second flow feature () is disposed on front () and rear () surfaces of the guide vanes () to channel the flow of exhaust gas between adjacent guide vanes () when the guide vanes () are in the open position to prevent swirling and/or cross flow of the exhaust gas.

Turbocharger with variable turbine geometry having grooved guide vanes

A variable geometry turbocharger includes a vane pack having rotatable vanes constrained by a pair of vane rings connected by a plurality of spacer connectors. The spacer connectors can include a spacer body for maintaining a minimum spacing between the vane rings. The spacer connectors are configured for bayonet mounting to at least one of the vane rings. To that end, the spacer connectors can include shaft portions extending from opposing sides of the spacer body. A plurality of transverse protrusions can extend outwardly from each shaft portion. Each shaft portion can be received in a respective in a vane ring. The spacer connectors can be rotated such that the transverse protrusions are offset from aperture portions that allow passage of the transverse portions, thereby retaining the vane rings in place in spaced relation. Such a system avoids close tolerances, press fits, expensive bolted joints or weld processes.

A vane ring assembly which includes a lower vane ring (), an upper vane ring (), one or more guide vanes () positioned at least partially between the vane rings, and a plurality of spacers (, or) positioned between the lower and upper vane rings for maintaining a distance between the lower and upper vane rings. By using a first set of fasteners () to fasten the lower vane ring to the turbine housing, and a second set of fasteners () to fasten the lower vane ring to the upper vane ring, the vane ring assembly is effectively decoupled from the turbine housing with regard to differential thermal expansion, and the co-planerism of the vane rings is easier to maintain.
