A scanning system is described providing an exception correction capability during multi-page scanning operations. A sensing system is used to sense exception conditions during a multi-page scanning operation. In response to detecting an exception, at least one scanned page associated with the exception condition is displayed on an image display and a user interface system is used to provide a plurality of user-selectable corrective actions associated with the exception condition. One or more corrective operations are then performed in response to a user selecting a particular corrective action.

An image processing system with an input connected to a network receives digital image data. A plurality of processors coupled to the input also receives the image data. Each of the plurality of processors simultaneously processes one of the multiple digital images and produces processed image data. An output interface coupled to the processors sequentially outputs the processed digital images.

A digital camera having a plurality of adjustable memory card fullness icons to visually indicate the amount of memory space that is available for storage in a plurality of corresponding removable memory cards insertable into the digital camera is disclosed. The digital camera includes an arrangement for capturing and digitizing image data, a display, and a processor for constructing the memory card fullness icon on the display. Each memory card fullness icon includes an inner portion that can be adjusted to graphically display the relative amount of memory space that is available for storage in its corresponding removable memory card. The digital camera further includes circuitry for transferring the digitized image data into a selected removable memory card. The processor determines the relative amount of available memory space in the selected memory card and modifies the adjustable inner portion of the memory card fullness icon on the display to visually indicate in graphic format the present relative amount of available memory space in the selected memory card.

An electronic still camera includes an image sensor for capturing an original image and generating image signals corresponding to the captured original image, an A/D converter for converting the image signals into original digital image data representative of the captured original image, an image processor for incrementally processing the original digital image data to generate processed image data as each increment is processed and completed, and a non-volatile memory for storing the processed image data, wherein the non-volatile memory also temporarily stores the original digital image data until the incremental processing is completed. The incremental processing of the original image data can then be interrupted in order to capture a new image, while the processed image data for the completed increments of the original image is saved in the non-volatile memory.

A program storage device is readable by a machine, which tangibly embodies a program of instructions executable by the machine to perform method steps for modifying color of an image captured in a digitized, color form. The method comprises the steps of sequentially modifying each portion of the image by a color matrix; determining when a portion of the modified image contains a predetermined fluorescent level; and further modifying only the portion of the image containing the predetermined fluorescent level by varying a fluorescent modification factor until a desired fluorescent level is obtained.

A technique for automatically focusing the lens of an electronic still camera employs a full frame image sensor 20 and a mechanical shutter 24. The image sensor 20 itself is operated first in a 'fast flush' mode to focus a lens 22, and then in a normal readout mode to obtain the final still image. To focus the lens 22, the shutter 24 is opened, and an image is integrated on the sensor 20. The average contrast of a central region 66 of the image is used to determine how well the image is focused. The portion of the image surrounding the central region 66 is rapidly read out and discarded, using 'fast flush' clocking where the vertical and horizontal registers are continuously clocked. The process is repeated numerous times with the shutter remaining open as the lens focus is adjusted until the maximum average contrast is obtained. At this point, the shutter is closed, and the entire sensor is cleared using 'fast flush' clocking. The shutter is again opened to capture the final image, and closed while the final image is read out.
