A method of forming and filling a container with an end product. Accordingly to the method, a preform is located within a mold assembly that defines the shape of the container and a nozzle assembly is moved so as to engage with at least one of the preform and the mold assembly forming a liquid tight seal. The end product is injected into the preform to simultaneously form a container from the preform and fill the container with the end product. After forming and filling the container, the nozzle assembly, which was used to inject the end product, is disengaged from the preform and/or mold assembly. After the nozzle assembly is disengaged, the filled container is removed from the mold assembly and residual end product is purged from the nozzle assembly.

A mold device and a method related thereto for forming a plastic container from a preform. The mold device comprises a mold defining a mold cavity, an optional stretch initiation rod system for engaging an interior portion of the preform to define a stretch initiation area, and a centrally disposed pressure source positionable within the preform for introducing a pressurized fluid.

The system includes a servo pressure system having an inlet and an outlet operable to output fluid, such as a liquid commodity, and a blow nozzle receiving the fluid from the servo pressure source and transferring the fluid at a pressure into the preform thereby urging the preform to expand toward the internal surface of the mold cavity and creating a resultant container, wherein the fluid remains within the container as an end product and wherein the servo pressure system and the blow nozzle output the fluid at a rate sufficient to fully form and fill the container in less than about 0.5 seconds.

Method and apparatus for forming and filling a container

A system for pre-stretching a preform utilized in forming a container. The system including an oven, a conveyor system configured for transporting preforms through the oven a blow molding station having at least one mold with interior surfaces defining the shape of the container, and a transfer station configured to transfer a preform from the oven into the blow molding station. The system also includes a stretch rod and an actuator. The stretch rod is movable between retracted and extended positions such that, when in the extended position, the stretch rod is positioned interiorly of the preform and the preform is elongated by the stretch rod to form a pre-stretched preform. The stretch rod is located to form the pre-stretched preform prior to the blowing medium being introduced into the preform in the blow molding station.

A molding system for molding a container includes a first blow mold operable for blow molding a first form of the container and a second blow mold operable for blow molding a second form of the container. The system further includes a counter stretch rod and/or a base pushup operable for reducing a height of the first form of the container before blow molding the second form of the container. A system for forming a container from a preform includes a first mold operable to receive the preform and operable to blow mold a first form of the container from the preform. The system also includes a second mold operable to receive the first form and operable to blow mold a second form of the container from the first form. The preform, the first form, and the second form each include a substantially common transitional wall. Also, the first form can include various features that ensure that material will be distributed as desired throughout the container, to ensure high wall strength, and to ensure high crystallinity.

A mold for forming a plastic container having an integrally formed standing ring. The mold includes a first mold portion and a second mold portion. The second mold portion is movable relative to the first mold portion. The first mold portion and the second mold portion together define at least in part a mold cavity for molding a plastic container. The first mold portion and the second mold portion together define a standing ring slot for forming a standing ring on a base portion of the plastic container. The standing ring slot is defined at an interface between the first mold portion and the second mold portion.

An apparatus and method for simultaneously forming and filling a plastic container is provided. A mold having a mold cavity defines an internal surface and is adapted to accept a preform. A pressure source is operable to draw liquid through the inlet and urge it into the preform. A blow nozzle may be adapted to receive the liquid from the pressure source and transfer the liquid at high pressure into the preform thereby urging the preform to expand toward the internal surface of the mold cavity and create a resultant container. A pressure compensation system can exert a clamping force on the mold in response to the pressure source. The liquid remains within the container as an end product.

A method of fluid forming a container comprising positioning a plastic preform into a mold cavity, wherein the mold cavity defines a first configuration and a first volume. The method further includes injecting a fluid within the plastic preform at a first fluid pressure urging the plastic preform into an expanded shape. The method includes actuating the mold cavity into a second configuration and a second volume, whereby the second volume is smaller than the first volume, thereby resulting in a second fluid pressure within the plastic preform being greater than the first fluid pressure.

The mold device comprises a mold defining a mold cavity, and a central exterior rod being movable within the mold cavity. A system for forming a container from a preform, wherein the preform has a finish and a support ring. The system includes a mold having a mold cavity defining an internal surface and adapted to accept the preform, a pressure system having an inlet and an outlet outputting fluid, a blow nozzle receiving the fluid from the pressure system and introducing the fluid at a pressure into the preform thereby expanding the preform toward the internal surface of the mold cavity and creating a resultant container. The system further includes a first seal engagement selectively engageable between the blow nozzle and the finish of the preform and a second seal engagement selectively engageable between the blow nozzle and an adjacent feature.

A mold device for injecting a fluid into a container where the mold device comprises a first mold portion having a first mating surface and a second mold portion having a second mating surface. The second mating surface is shaped complementary to the first mating surface. A mold cavity is disposed within the first mold portion and the second mold portion. The mold device further comprises an interlocking mating surface system disposed between or made a part of the first mold portion and second mold portion to define a fluid seal therebetween and align the first mold portion to the second mold portion in at least a first direction.

The liquid remains within the container as an end product.
